A Poisonous Clover - A D&D Murder Mystery

Suggested Price $2.53

It’s 2am in the Grand Souk and for once, it’s quiet. Only a few stock-takers roam the empty alleys of the marketplace alongside a couple of drunkards finally leaving the only tavern there. As players drunkenly stumble into a nearby shop, they are shocked to find a dead body of a prominent businessman, Tifter Valeure.

This adventure set in Port Nyanzaru takes players deep into the city’s dark underbelly to uncover the details of Tifter’s shifty life, all under the watchful eyes of the untouchable merchant princes. With its information-driven story line and combat-lite encounters, A Poisonous Clover relies heavily on player roleplay to bring about an exciting investigation through the city. With very few stats involved, it can easily be transfered to almost any RPG setting, making it a useful resource for any DM hoping to create their own murder mystery.

So my question about the handouts got deleted when my accounts got merged. So thank you for adding the handouts. It actually did help a bit where the one of the handouts did give a leading clue to the players. So thank you for adding it in.

The translation is in spanish and well Yes, you can add the pdf, because after all, you are the owner of the translation :D is the least I can do after you give me your permission to do it!!, and well I'm not an official translator so there may be a few mistakes...
And if you want I can also give you the link so you can edit it?

Hi, I haven´t played it yet and haven´t decided if i will. I really like the story of this murder mystery and how it fits into the scene in Nyanzaru. What I am missing is a part that tells you more about the dramatis personae. Its hard enough as a DM to really play out all the NPCs, but having not much about them makes it even harder. Also I wondered about Kris often being referred to in the plural? Am I missing something?

Hi, thanks for your interest in the mystery! Sorry there is no run down of who's who - I'll definitely add that in the next version. Kris is non-binary and uses they/them singular pronouns. Hope that clears it up and you enjoy running the adventure!

I got around to running a Poisonous Clover and it went well but there were definitely also some learnings for me in it.

I ran it as conceived/discussed by the author which was as a one-shot but given the relatively limited scope my players problem solved their way through it relatively quickly. In hindsight (and if I had it to do again) I would drop the adventure into more of a sandbox structure where the PCs interacted with one or more of the NPCs from this adventure outside of the adventure proper so that there was both slightly more investment on my players' part and so that more backstory might have provided a few more 'red herrings'.

Overall the adventure itself did go to plan and was certainly well worth it's modest cost.
As I've typed this out I think I will definitely run this again (with a different group obviously) inserting the location and characters into a campaign multiple session ahead of the actual murder.

I'm so happy to hear it went well overall! What I really liked about this story was that it could be more of a sandbox easily dropped into an adventure. I've now run the game properly twice, and one group jumped at all the red herrings and took forever to find "whodunnit", but the other one got it relatively quickly. So whether there needs to be more red herrings I'm not sure! Thanks for enjoying the story!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
