The players get more than they bargain for when answering a night-time call for assistance from a mutual friend.  Can they escape the githyanki prison known as the Crucible and find their way home from the Astral Plane?

Designed for characters of 5th to 9th level, the Crucible can be played as a standalone one shot adventure, or as the first in a four part series of connected one shots that see the party fight their way to hell and back.

Authors note: the encounters in this adventure readily can be tailored to suit most party compositions, and have added to them adventure hooks to fit in with a larger campaign.

Also, if you like it, don't forget to rate it; if you don't like it, drop me an email and let me know what can be improved.

You've got this as optimized for 5th-9th level characters. Curious what you'd say is the ideal party composition. How many characters at what level?

Oh wait - I did find it eventually. 4-6 players. Some adventures are more specific (eg 5x level 7 characters), so I was looking for that.

Hi Jen -

I first ran it with six 5th level characters, one ranger, two clerics (one a war cleric, the other vanilla), a rogue, paladin and fighter. It was challenging enough to be enjoyable. If you are running with 9th levels, 4 would probably do the trick. I wanted something that a range of levels could have fun with, though, which is why the adventure can be customised to suit.

Happy to get feedback from people who have tried it, of course, to see what works well!

Cheers
Alan

Hey Alan. Where can I get my hands on the rest of the parts of this series? Are they still in development?

Hi Chris -

Thanks for your interest and enthusiasm. The remaining episodes are all written, I am just formatting them for publication. Episode Two should be out by the end of the week.

Best regards
Alan

Hi, So assuming episode 2 is out by now, what is the title?

That was remiss of me!

Part Two is called Soul Survivor, and it came out a couple of weeks ago. Part Three is called Revenge of the Gith (I should have it tidied up in another week or so), followed by Part Four, Into The Abyss.

Update: Part Three is now out: Revenge of the Gith. It's a bit big, though!

And in case you missed it, the finale episode is out now too.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
