Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Watermarked PDF
$19.99

Eberron was born in 2002 when Wizards of the Coast launched a worldwide search for a new campaign setting.

Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron brings the eponymous campaign setting to the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. This 175 page book gives you everything you need to create an Eberron story or character, exploring the core themes of the setting and the rules to implement them in fifth edition. It includes an overview of Khorvaire and the fantastic city of Sharn, along with a host of background ideas and story hooks.

Playtest material includes the unique races of Eberron, the mystical dragonmarks (including greater dragonmarks and aberrant dragonmarks), and new magic items; this is a living document, and this content will evolve and be updated in response to feedback.

Want to create and publish your own Eberron PDFs?

The Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron can serve as your jumping off point to create your own monsters, adventure modules, and other tabletop content set within Eberron and put it up for sale on the Dungeon Masters Guild.

I downloaded the Artificer update for 02/28. Why is it that the concept of item creation is an anathema in 5e? I am unimpressed.

Was that in the actual book or just the Unearthed Arcana from the website? I don't have this yet myself (waiting for print) but am looking forward to playing an Artificer in the Eberron playtest AL.

The reason would be that Wizards is putting so little effort into any of their books, that every single one of them feels half finished. I've read through the DMG, the PHB, the Monster Manual, and most of the adventures. Every one of them feels half done, relative to the level of information and quality of content that Wizards has put out in previous books.

Which makes sense, when you think about it. The point of DnD for 3.5 and 4th edition, at least, was to sell you the books, for fun and entertainment. The point of 5th edition is to sell you the miniatures. The books are nothing more than an advertisement/excuse for buying the miniatures they now sell.

EDIT: It is why I will always prefer Pathfinder over Dungeons and Dragons. Paizo cares about their world. They recognise the importance of deep world building, as well as providing both GM and players with many options. And both Pathfinder 1e and Pathfinder 2e are FAR more robust systems, instead of simply being arbitrary advantage/disadvantage...See more

You know, everyone also accused them of trying to sell miniatures with 4e, and 3.0. WotC gets accused of all manner of money-grubbing no matter what they do, actually. As far as Paizo, their only selling point is their adventure paths. They're so bad at actually making a game they had to steal one...from WotC. So curb your Paizo worship a bit and dial back the wotc hate, yeah?

And even if they're just trying to sell product...so what? What's wrong with a company trying to make some money.

Plus, the idea that 5e is meant to sell minis when WOTC doesn't actually sell minis (they're all made by licensees) and the edition specifically puts the rules for using minis in a sidebar proves that Shannon L has no idea what they're talking about and is little more than a shill.

As for the original post, 5e does away with the assumption so prevalent in 3.x and 4e that magic items will be common and expected for PCs to scale with the difficulty of the level. That's a good thing, as magic items should be rare treasures, not expected power-ups. It does make the Eberron setting and it's signature Artificer class more difficult to implement, since they were partly built with the assumptions of 3.x in mind, but I think WOTC and Keith Baker have found a nice balance that allows for the setting to exist without undermining the wonderous rarity of magic items in the edition as a whole.

100%. The artificer was in 3.5 basically a way to explore the robust item creation rules in the DMG from a player's perspective. the rules included the ability to target an approximate cost based on spell used, ability given, charges per day/lifetime, etc. What we have in 5e is a list of items with suggested cost, but no view into the design on the back end, meaning a class meant for designing more is fighting an uphill battle.

With Artificer added to UA, how long will it take before it is added to this, and therefore Eberron AL?

So, is there still going to be an Artificer class added to this or are we just left with the UA version indefinitely?

Curious when the next update will be published. I'm holding off on printing a paper copy for reference until the next version is available.

Concerning lifts. There is very little that I can find published. Mostly, it is from the Sharn Guide (p. 36, 170). I have seen illustrations of the lifts rising up from Cliffside Docks (p. 51, 65). Are there any other illustrations for reference? Is it purely magical or a combination of mechanical and magical? Are the lines of glowing energy just that or is there a filament used to conduct the energy? I was thinking the later, as the personnel lifts would need to stop at various levels to allow people off instead of having people make jump to get off. I am trying to work out the details for when a lift fails. I was thinking that the lifts for people would tend to be round and the cargo lifts rectangular. Not really a functional difference, just aesthetics.

And the soarsled's price? Is it still roughly 38,000 gold?

Is there any chance someone has done a conversion for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist into Sharn and Eberron? If not, can someone creative reading this get on that? I'm trying to do it myself, but I'm a barbarian with Int 8.

Can anyone explain to me why all the Sea Sorcerer spells have to do with earth and none of them to do with water? It seems backwards to me.

I'd like to know if a print on demand copy is anywhere in the near future? I really would like a printed and binded version of this book. Willi it continue to be an evolving reference? If so, how long do you think it will?

It's not a spell and teleport would in that case be the right formulation

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
