Cie shouldered the heavy knapsack, its bloodstained bottom still dripping red droplets onto the cavern floor. She grunted as the weight shifted onto her left shoulder, and began the steep climb back to civilization.
She knew they needed money. But the parchment Bhardak spotted nailed to the tavern bounty board seemed too good to be true from the start. 3,000 gold for the head of a giant? Easy. Of course, the locals hadn't really seen the beast themselves.
And nobody knew about its pet.
Maybe next time they'll do more scouting and research on the job before marching in and almost getting themselves killed.
Though as she winced from  the wound in her side where the beast savaged her, she couldn't help but grin.

It's going to be one hell of a payday.

100 Monster Hunts is a collection of bounties, quests and plot hooks Dungeon Masters can quickly add into their campaigns. In this 36 page supplement you will find 100 different short monster
themed quests, drawing from the Monster Manual, Volo's Guide to Monsters, and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes

Each quest has been outlined with a bounty advertisement for your players and additional quest details for the DM, including named NPCs, plot or objectives, loot and treasure rewards, as well as helpful page references for each item or monster involved in the hunt.
Need something quick and don't want to drag through all 100 hunts to find something? Just roll a d100 and consult the tables to quickly whip up a sudden quest whenever you need it!
Each table give you a quick overview of the expected difficulty of the quest for 4 and 6 players, the recommended level, whether the rewards are monetary, magical or both, and even lists the books required to run the encounter.

So what are you waiting for? Give yourself a chance to flex those RP muscles and have your players ready their weapons - it's monster hunting time!

Now Available for Fantasy Grounds!

Hi Adam, I'm happy to hear you're enjoying Coastal Encounters!
Regarding the FG version of 100 Monster Hunts, I'm not sure how it converts to Foundry. We partner with Grim Press for all our Fantasy Grounds conversions, so I suggest dropping them an email at trevor@grimpress.net for more info.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for reaching out. To my knowledge, Foundry does not yet have an import tool for Fantasy Grounds content (in the way it works with DDB). If you are interested, please feel free to jump on our discord server and we can chat about any developments as they happen:

I own the Monster Manual and Volo's, but not Mord's Tome. Can you tell me how many of the entries require Mord's? I'm planning to get it at some time, but don't have it now.

Hi Jeffrey,

There is approximately 34 hunts that exclusively use Mord's Tome. I tried to ensure there was an even spread between the Monster Manual, Volos, and Mord's Tome so there was something for everyone.

This is exactly what i need, i love DM ing as long as is my custom story. My only issue is that i play the 3.5e. Is it possible to adjust everything to that edition?

Hi Alex, thanks for the support and question!
This has been designed for 5th edition, however it doesn't use any mechanics from the monsters in question, so it should, with a little tweaking, work just as well for a 3.5 edition versions of 5e monsters mentioned.
I am looking into expanding into 3.5 and others in the coming year as well though, so be sure to keep your eyes out for those when they drop :)

My concern about buying this supplement is that more than half of the hunts need the use of Mordenkainen's and Volo's, which is a pity.

Not everyone own them, and a purchaser like me should be forced to buy 100$ of supplements to use properly a 5$ pdf.

This is something I've taken on board for the other books in the Monster Hunts series, so thanks for the feedback. It helps to know what would make my products better, and you can be happy in the knowledge that every book since this one has focused on a single book. I don't intend to go back on that either.

Great resource - and fun to link to Feats!

One minor cavil - this needs to be a searchable PDF.

Vall, I genuinely love this PDF! Playing a Westmarches style of game, once in a while the players just want to go fight something that goes bump in the night, and your resources is better than anything else!
However! One small prayer: Could we pretty please have a printer-friendly version without the background images? Thanks in advance :)

Hey I was reading the reviews and Andre nailed it on the head with what I wanted to get through in my comment.

“For the price you can't really expect much more then this but I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it was only say 20 encounters and the rest of that page space was devoted to flushing those encounters out a lot more then whats given.”

I realize now that increasing the price above $5 might not be the best decision but just reducing the number of hunts and the quality of each hunt would be a massive boost to the staying power of the book. And when people read “100 Monster Hunts” they expect actual monsters, not humans, bandits or drow. So having 20-30 detailed hunts on MONSTEROUS monsters with loot based off scavenging the corpse would be amazing for quality.

Its pretty decent for $5 but what would really add some flare is increasing the price to $7-10 and improving the quality of individual monster hunts. The table itself is good to use a number of times but there is little variety between each hunt.
"Kill every monster on the list until its dead, collect your gold + 1 other piece of reward". The other reward given is sometimes pretty good such as "A battered old scroll detailing the location of a long forgotten dragons lair" because this provides the GM with a hook to drive the players in a direction and get other things done along the way.

Other good rewards used are; Handwritten ‘thank you’ note, (The rewards on “Family Matters” hunt), Common & Uncommon magical items, etc. I find that the most memorable rewards for these quests are ones that give a sense of personality to the world, I find far too many rewards that are 100gp and a Potion of X Healing, These just make the NPC’s and their hunt very forgettable....See more

Awesome! I forgot to mention but I really like how you used uncommon monsters as often as possible, this really gave a unique feel to the encounters instead of the 2d4 wolves you would find in the WotC modules.

Hi Jacob, thanks for the support!

As to your question, it depends on your party composition and tactics. Perhaps allow the party to hire a ranger or guide to help "hunt" the creatures, or give your group more hints towards a creature's weakness or lair.
You could also allow your players to level up a few levels more prior to taking on a particular bounty.

If they are level 4, for example try offering them a medium difficulty bounty recommended for 4 3rd level players, as that should work out to be an high medium / low hard encounter for your players instead.
I hope this helps!

There are no statblocks so there's no need for something specific to 3.5 It's generic enough to work with any system, just look up the relevant monster in the monster manual of the system of your choice.

Hey Vall, this is a great product! Is there any way you could make it so the text is copy/pasteable? Or even have a text only version? I'm wanting to add this to my DnD OneNote but separate them out by level, but it's a lot to retype.

Hi Jeremy, thanks for the kind words!
If you've purchased a copy, version 2 has been released which should allow the PDF to be searchable and the text to be copy/pasted.
Version 2 also has a collection of new tables that randomizes the hunts by recommended level, if that helps!

Oh awesome! I hadn't tried copy/paste in version 2. That's perfect. Thanks!

-Edit-
It allows me to select the text, but not copy/paste it. But having the extra tables and levels next to the full text of the bounties made everything much easier to navigate.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
