FYI, there are several paragraphs on the last page, under the "Aberration" heading, that are truncated.

Thank you! Sorry about that, it must have been a copy/paste error. Beholderkin-V3.pdf has the corrected text.

Conceptually, I like these a lot. As is they they look a little too strong balance wise.

Slow and Sleep in particular are too much, too soon since sleep is essentially save or die at low levels. Using the casting trait of tieflings or aasimar is probably a good model and just explain that the stronger eyes mature more slowly, allow the character to use charm and enervation at level 1 and then the other at level 3 and another at level 5. Have all of them be short rest recharge.

I'd swap out slow for TK, make it invisible mage hand like the Gith get and maybe the Sleep for a scaling d8 force bolt that can disintegrate 1 cubic foot of nonmagical material.

In exchange for the more limited number of uses I'd give them a slow fall effect based on the Beholder's air bladders letting their heads swell like a puffer fish and sparing them falling damage.

I think it would be cool if one explanation for the origin of the cyclops variant was Gazers surgically attached...See more

Thanks for the feedback!

I really like the sound of the slow fall effect.

Never thought of sleep being that powerful compared to disintegration or death rays, but I definitely see how it can be abused. I was hoping that randomizing the ray would limit its tactical viability.

I can't believe I didn't think to add a short rest recharge! Would you say one short rest for all eye rays or one short rest per each eye ray?

What are your thoughts on the "Eyes on the Back of Your Head" trait? Is the Reaction Eye Ray too overpowered? And if not, would that count against the recharge rate?

I caught some typos in there as well! I'll add some edits!

I think a short rest recharge for all the eyes would be fine. Didn't see it was randomized. The reaction ability didn't seem to be an issue. Good luck!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
