ADD TO WISHLIST >

An urgent plea for assistance comes from the coastal village of Jarko’tu’ta. Traders are dead, canoes destroyed, bloodthirsty sharks spotted! A perilous canoe journey and fog-shrouded mysteries await adventurers.

A 2- or 4-Hour Adventurers League Convention Created Content for 1st-4th Level Characters, brought to you by Cold Iron Conventions and Draxtar Games.

In addition the ability to turn any day into SHARK DAY, this stand-alone adventure includes:

  • An Official Adventurers League magic item certificate
  • Gridded reference maps for key combat encounters
  • Printable icons to help track watercraft
  • NEW: Season 8 Item Unlock Handout - prints 9 to a page, one for every player!

About the runtime:   The core of this adventure is a 2-hour experience that includes Combat, Social Interaction and Exploration encounters.  The included expansion seamlessly extends the adventure to 4-hours.  More than just an extra fight, this addition features new characters with their own backstory and motivations as well as additional content across all three pillars of play!

This adventure can serve as an introduction for new players while also scaling to provide an exciting experience for the more seasoned.

For another adventure set in the same village, check out CCC-HAL-01 Fate of the Nightworms. Though the two adventures have entirely unrelated stories and require no knowledge of the other, adventurers that played Steamy Shores can start Fate of the Nightworms without leaving Jarko'tu'ta and may encounter some familiar NPCs.

I ran this mostly because it would let me have a talking shark NPC in another module. Who can say no to a talking shark?
First battle was a great unique high-stakes combat. I enjoyed that the battle difficulty was based on the specific # & level of each character present. A level 1 character got killed quickly, partially because he shared a canoe with a level 4 player.

We really enjoyed the interactions with "Big Folk".

Optional shark-saving battle went very much like the first battle. Despite many hints, my players never looked for the hidden enemy. After 3 rounds their NPC ally had to point it out. It's a great example of a fight with more than 2 sides though.

Final battle was very quick. The big bad only got one attack in before she was killed.

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback! If you're running it again in the future and are looking to make the final battle more challenging, upgrading the extra enemies and having them hidden to start can make a big difference!

I ran this yesterday and it went pretty well. I found the introduction was a little hasty but that wasn't a big issue. It took us three and a half hours without doing the optional part. A shame there as I would have liked to include it.

Very messy and fun opening battle, but there was so much to keep track of; not just the hp of a lot of sharks, but also how many PCs were in each canoe and who was split off. I was focused more on admin that narrating with flavor.
We also had lots of fun with role playing the bigfolk greeting and the villain at the end.
During the final battle I noticed that the parties involved did not share a common language. This is a minor issue for it worked with my group.

Hi and thanks for the feedback! With some of the randomness and (awesome) player creativity, the opening fight can turn out pretty crazy - I've had this happen in one of my own runs too! As long as your players had fun doing it and you had the time, it's ok if it goes long. I love the extension, but it's not as important as other parts of the story!

Good catch on the language issue - for some reason I thought their language was a dialect of Aquan, but I see that it's not. During next round of fixes, I'll update the adventure to account for this by giving them Aquan also!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
