“The best-laid plans of dice and DMs oft go awry”

Every Dungeon Master has been in this situation: your players can’t figure out what to do next, where to go next or who to look for next.  It’s your job as the DM to get them unstuck, and this collection of encounters can help.

Each of these encounters allow your players to gain the needed information in a fun, unique or (sometimes) low-cost way.  A kenku who trades sounds for secrets, a hill giant with important maps in his belly, a mimic who…well you’ll just have to find out.  Once each encounter is completed, your adventure will be back on track!

These 10 encounters are set in wilderness, cities and dungeons, and are versatile enough to be dropped into most Tier I and Tier II adventures.

Get your adventure UNSTUCK!

And while you're here, have a look at some of my other work on the DMs Guild:

Tavern Brawl Builder (Silver bestseller)

A story-filled collection of taverns, brawl encounters, NPCs and hooks.  Mix and match these elements for 1,000 unique brawls!  Meet a dryad-approved tavern in the trees, rescue a stair-sliding sorcerer baby, or bet on the pond races at the 'Frog's Fortune Inn'.  Called "genius" by D&D content creators Tony Petrecca and Chris Bissette (reviews here and here)!

Volo's Lost Encounters (Silver bestseller)

A series of mini-adventures inspired by Volo's Guide to Monsters.  Foil a hag's heart-twisting plans, negotiate with hobgoblin commanders or dodge the handiwork of artistic stone giants.  A 5-star review by D&D blogger Merric B!

Unstuck Encounters (Silver bestseller)

My first collection of short scenarios for when your PCs just can't figure it out.

I love encounters. Why? Because a single encounter can: start a new section of your campaign, fill the time when someone has to step away, or be used if you need to fill gaps in your game. Mr. Lorber has done an excellent job creating this product. Th [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
