I'm confused by Binding Rites, does it take away all the spell slots of that level or just one?
If I have four level 1 spells slots and then bind a level 1 slot, does that mean I have three spell slots left or are they all used?

Hi Joshua :) When you bind a spirit to one of your fourth level spells slots, it "fills up the slot" like casting a spell, and your other three slots are left alone. This slot is "spent" when you use the spirit's release effect. While you have the spirit you cannot use this one slot for casting. There's an ability at level 7 that lets you trade the spirit back for your slot to be available again, and you reset all spell slots when you finish a long rest. I hope this helps! you can also find me on reddit at u/Zarieth.

Hey Zarieth! Been following this class for a year now i think. :D pretty good progress on it!

another side question btw, i see spells being gained via subclass but also in the spell list. I suppose the ones in the spell list should be deleted?
duplicated spells are:
- Hold person
- Locate Object
- Remove Curse
- Vampiric Touch
- Locate Creature
- Polymorph
- Awaken
- Greater Restoration
- Suggestion
- tongues
- Hallucinatory Terrain
- dream
- Modifiy memory
- crown of madness
- Bestow curse
- Confusion
- Darkness
- Fear
- Calm Emotions
- Spirit Guardians
- Death Ward
- Freedom of Movement
- Commune
- Legend lore

As you see, this makes the spelllist of Blood, Unity and Charm pretty useless.
However i do not encourage removing the duplicate...See more

Thanks for the feedback and question, Kevin. The duplicate spells are intended and were added at the same time the class evolved from a prepared spells class to known spells class. I and others found that witches were too limited a lower levels especially with spell selection, so instead, familiars act as a boon by picking the most Useful, widely used and thematic (to the subclass) spells instead of the ______ witch spending precious spells known to know them. I didn't, like you allude to, want to close off a lot of options to other sub classes. You have a good point too about the spells with lower level versions that are absent. I'll keep this in mind for the next revision. I can also be reached at u/Zarieth on reddit :)

I've send you a message in the past on reddit without response but ok. :p (I made a Custom character sheet

And do you know when the new version will be ready on this class? Can't wait to update mine

I'm sorry I missed your message on reddit! I would have definitely remembered as your sheet is amazing. I would love to provide a link to it on the next official version.

As for the time frame, most of it is done but a few big balancing issues and the proofreading still have to go through, so I can only say I'll try amidst work etc.

But seriously, that sheet made my day!

I don't know if it's still up-to-date. So if you send me your class a week earlier i can make one which is up to date.

And thanks. I like playing a witch. :D

I have a question about the reasoning for The Quickening's spell-like concentration. To me the ability seems like a temporary second sight awakening rather than a meditative clairvoyance, thoughts? Regarding spirits, Trust seems weak in the situation that you are the only spell-caster. You could maybe open up the Help Action effects to an ally's regular attacks and change the release to choosing targets to omit, based on spirit level, from your's or an ally's spells? Nonetheless, this is a really awesome class!

Hi Mike! Thanks for commenting. I have been sharing the same doubts over the concentration for quickening. It prevents a lot of synergy with spells and undead that the witch is supposed to have expertise in. I've been playing my own playtest without concentration and it seems well balanced and I strongly considered removing the requirement for the next version. Trust is definitely the most "bugged" spirit, being new to this iteration, so I will file your suggestions with the rest of reworkings-to-be-seen when life takes a side-step. Thank you so much again! Best of the season!

Question regarding the passion spirit. Say i had it at level 5, does it have 5 dice until its released? So like if i have use the dice and dont release it for 5 levels they are gone. Or does it recharge?

one quick question related to Covenant spells. it says that you have access to these spells "when you have a familiar" what does that mean in the context of this class?
Customer avatar
Christopher R July 17, 2018 4:35 am UTC
Hi Rigel, it's whenever you have cast find familiar and your familiar hasn't been slain. It can be from the class feature that lets you cast the spell, or if you choose it as a known spell or can prepare it and cast it from another source (which you might technically do if for some reason your familiar habitually dies multiple times between long rests). Let me know if you have any other questions :)

This class is genius, honestly. You should consider charging for this, even if it's just a dollar. I feel wrong taking it for free when it's clear that a lot of thought and hard work has gone into it. It's an extremely well developed class that feels unique with a perfect marriage between class narrative and mechanics.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
