A massive compendium of all of my homebrew content, I give you Alder's Anthology of the Abstruse!

An ongoing living document, Alder's Anthology is a massive compilation of all of my homebrew 5e creations! This material contains:

  • 18 New Races

  • 2 Race Revisios (Genasi and Tabaxi)

  • Merchant and Witch Classes

  • 27 New Subclasses

  • Hundreds of new items, mechanics, and more!

  • New Monsters

Disclaimer: If Wizards of the Coast releases their own official version of any of the material that appears in this text, it will be removed from this text. This was the case with my Artificer, Changeling, and Warforged homebrews.

A huge thank you to AJ Pickett for his review of the compendium!

Hey, I was reading over this and I’m actually going to use your Merchant class in a future campaign, but I found that the Master Miser ability isn’t explained, could you help with that?

Ah yeah, that must have gotten lost in an edit. I'll update and reupload within the week.

I have a few questions regarding the witch class:

(1) Are your bound spell slots supposed to recover on a short or long rest? I'm guessing a long rest, because the possibility to cast 4 9th level spells per short rest might be a bit much ^^.

(2) Is the bond to your familiar (and staying within 100ft) enough to use them as a spellcasting focus or do you have to touch them?

I love the class so far, as well as a lot of other stuff you put into this :)

Thanks for the kind words and letting me know about this. I'm adding wordage in for it right now.

The bond to your familiar is enough.

Thanks, mate :)

Also, your Firearm Expert Feat is a bit weird, since the second option requires a light firearm, of which there are none in the whole document ^^

If you ever want to do a major update, here is something you might want to think about:

The Witch's basic thing is hex, which requires concentration to maintain. Most of the spells you would want to use with it and most of the Witch's spells in general require concentration, so you can't use them or you will drop hex. There are some ways around it, like using a 5th level bestow curse instead, but that is only available starting level 9, has a range of touch and kinda invalidates the first part of JuJu. Finding a solution for this problem would really help the flow of this class.

Hey, good product! I had a question about the Lightless Race's Description. It says that light makes their skin "appear to vanish entirely" did you intend this to mean you see their exposed muscle or that they're humanoid shadows?

Thank you! They are humanoid shadows. Imagine looking at someone who had Vantablack for skin.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
