Fulvano's Guide to the Wilds

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Suggested Price $5.00

Beyond the walls and roads of civilization, the old places of the world still reign. Vast, untamed wilderness stretches in all directions, promising untold adventure and danger for those willing to traverse it.

Fulvano's Guide to the Wilds contains expanded rules and content for wilderness survival and exploration. It builds on the foundations found in the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide, but provides more comprehensive rules on subjects concerning the wilderness. It makes the wilds more dangerous, involved, and interactive, providing players with more options, choices, and uses for their abilities, particularly those concerning exploration and survival. It also provides Dungeon Masters with systems and rules for weather, navigation, hazards, survival, and more.

5/18/18 - v1.0.1 now available

All of these changes are in the changelog in the Guide itself.

When you purchase the file, there are now two download options available: the 285mb high-quality format, as previously found, as well as a 17mb lower-quality format, which downloads much faster.

The cover is now included in the PDF.

Added the effects of sleeping while exposed, which were previous lacking.

Added the DMs Guild logo to cover.

14 pages, clean good lay out, Provides tables on effects and time taken to travel distances at different rates (like +/- to survival or perception when traveling fast or slow), DCs for tracking in different conditions, how lost a party can get when a player fails to navigate for them properly, rules for starvation and dehydration, foraging, unclean water and food, tables for foodborne illness and precipitation, as well as survival and perception boons and penalties from weather, effects differing wind speeds can have, difficulty the region can take on survival and travel time, and such. It also has exactly what kind of effects to impose on players for thin-ice, geysers, lava, sand-storms, quick-sand, avalanches, extreme heat and cold, etc.

There are now two versions available - the 285mb version, as before, as well as a 17mb version, which is in a reduced-size format.

Your file size seems to be so big because it appears that everything is a picture instead of text.

I love this booklet too but am disappointed that the cover displayed in the description above is not included in the download. I would really LOVE to have a cover for this.

Bought it and loved it. I was figuring out traveling rules for a hexcrawl campaign and this looks just like curated list of a ton of cool things I had collected around the blogosphere, but was having a hard time putting together as a coherent system. Well worth the money.

Please add a print friendly version so I can bring it to the table and players can read it at any time. :)

This is a really awesome supplement, and it stays very true to the original rule writings, good job!

A minor comment about the flavor text with the fancy script - some letters can be hard to read, like 'k' and 'y', so maybe consider using a different fancy font. It looks great, and doesn't affect the "real" content much, but I didn't want to let such hard work go to waste!

Thank you for compiling this, I hope to one day use this if I ever DM or play a game with heavy/significant wilderness adventuring :)

You may also want to look at why it downloads without the cover?

300 mb is a bit too much for 14 pages! The pdf opening is slow... however, the contents are interesting, if you reduce the weight it becomes really interesting.

I agree that 300mb is too much! I am in the midst of working on a v1.0.1 that will fix the download size as well as making a few other revisions, which will be available soon.

And thank you for the kind words - I tend to use the Variant: Encumbrance rules found in the PHB for carry weight purposes, but I know lots of tables don’t, so I decided against making it a requirement.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
