50 Notice Board Quests

Beryl and Perrin look at the massive sun-bleached notice board outside of the New Salt tavern. The Dirty Water Gang, falling on hard times, as usual, couldn't be too picky with where their next meal would come from.

Perrin coughs into his silk hankerchief then says, "Do we really want to be lab rats for some creepy alchemist, again? I can still smell colors..."

"Well," Beryl says tentatively, "the brothel might pay more - but i'm not sure how easy it'll be to find a missing goat. It... It is an actual goat, right?"

With a deep belly laugh, the halfling slaps Beryl on the thigh and says, "Oh, Beryl. You know it's not. Let me explain! When a man and a woman-"

"Let us go see the alchemist!" Berly tears the parchment from the notice board and hurries away.

VOLUME 2 OUT NOW!  12/8/2020 Mithral Re-Release now live!

Give 'em Something To Do: DMs do a lot of work. It's rewarding building an entire world for your players to explore and populating it with a variety of NPCs and massive sprawling quests, but sometimes you just want to let your players poke around for a bit and decide what they want to get involved in. If you've ever had your players start asking every NPC their name, hoping someone has a short or zaney quest for them to bite into - this PDF is absolutely for you.

Thoughful Layout: Few DMs need ten pages to tell them the who, what, when, where, and why of every little thing the players decide to do. Letting them lead the way and allowing their choices to inspire you are what little quests prompts like this are about! How they complete the task is often as fun as anything you could have planned yourself and will often feel more rewarding for all involved.

Printer Friendly. I chose to design this list of quests to be as painless as possible for online and in-person folks. Plenty of room to cut them into bite-sized cards, clean easy to read text, and only some watercolor splashes to bring a little color means that printing this thing won't destroy your ink reserves or be more trouble than its worth when thrown into Fantasy Grounds or Roll20.

Improve your Improvisational Chops: Sometimes we can all fall into ruts of planning out every little thing we believe the players will do. The quests inside 50 Notice Board Quests are seeds - built to have just enough information to entice and tempt your players while inspiring you, but no quest is so plotted out so much that you feel yoked by them. "Find my goat" can mean... any number of things... depending on your group! So taloring these quests to your table's needs, especially on the fly, will do wonders to improving your skills at "going with the flow" and making your game world feel more random and alive.

NPCs are Present and Accounted For: I am pretty good at pulling names out of thin air, but we all know many are NOT. Having a starting point for NPCs can help marvelously. The Captain of the Guard, a local scribe, the mayor of a small city, dozens of nobles - each one of these quests can lead to a recurring NPC or even a villain or two.

Is there a way to copy and paste the text out of the PDF so I don't have to re-type them onto my Roll20 notice board?

I'm unaware of there being an issue with copy/paste, so that must be a new update issue. You may have better luck with a screengrab. I'll look into updating this PDF (much deserved) soon, but I doubt that'll help you.
If you need direct help, email me ( and i'll see if i can help.

Good news, Tracy - since this PDF hit Mithral Bestseller and you brought it to my attention, I decided to rebuild the entire PDF to, hopefully, alleviate any reader and text selection problems. Let me know if you're still having troubles when you download the new version!

Purchased this recently and I am DYING to use it in game. These notice board quests are written VERY well, with enough depth and brevity to make them individually interesting, but vague enough to fit into any fantasy... or maybe not even fantasy, setting. These slot perfectly into my homebrew universe, and I'm sure it can fit with yours as well.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
