Arcane Spells Vol. I

We love the Raw Arcane in this house.

In this PDF are 6 original playtested and balanced spells for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.  Four of them are following suit of being 100% arcane-based.  Each of them is unique and creates an intriguing concept for spellcasters.  I spend lots of time balancing and writing my spells, so I hope you can safely enjoy them at your table.

Other Editions:

Arcane Spells Vol. V

Arcane Spells Vol. IV

Arcane Spells Vol. III

Arcane Spells Vol. II

Arcane Spells Vol. I

Changelog:

- 12/28/2018

Brand new cover image for the PDF and the product's page on DM's Guild!  I hope you guys like the new look!

- 10/11/2018

Renamed the PDF and Title to Volume 1 to embrace the new Volume 2! Check it out!

Changed the wording on Arcane Charge from "Once per turn" to "Once on your turn" to avoid confusion - even though this damage is a free action, you cannot do it as an opportunity attack, nor as a part of someone else's turn

Changed some more spells' wordings to make the effects a little more clear.

Changed Arcane Bore to deal 21d8 instead of 20d8 when cast using a spell slot of 8th or higher.  This follows the algorithm much better as opposed to being a clean number.  (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6)

Changed Imbue Toxins so it no longer requires you to continuously spend an action to deal the damage, else the spell fails.  This way, after having dealt the initial poison damage, you may let the target remained poisoned, but take no damage.

- 5/24/2018

Reuploaded the PDF so its quality issues are fixed (finally)

Changed some wording in the spells to make them a little more comprehensive.

Buffed Rune of Warding to have the first barrier absorb 4x your spellcasting ability score instead of 3x

Renamed "Streak" to "Mordenkainen's Arcane Bore"

Changed Localized Blizzard to require Strength saving throws, and no longer persists after a failed save, however, grows more rapidly, and gives more debuffs such as disadvantage to both Strength and Dexterity checks and saving throws.  In addition, the range that the flurry can extend out to is now 30 feet, and increases in range by 5 feet every time ANY damage is inflicted, instead of just when the vortex's damage is inflicted.

Changed Nova Burst to reflect its intended purpose- when cast at higher levels, the radius of effect increases instead of damage.  Spellcasting range increased to 90 feet.

- 3/1/2023

Hey y'all, been a while.

I've recently found some time to touch these up and create some new additions to the compendium.  Here's some changes I've made:

Altered the wording of the spells to better reflect their intention and to make their effects more clear, concise, and effective.

Changed Nova Burst so that it no longer requires a Saving Throw, much akin to Cloud of Daggers.  Changed the damage value to reflect this change.

Imbue Toxins's range is self, this is a mistake right? it says that you target a creature within range...

Yes, that was a mistake. I'm not sure how that snuck into the new PDF's. Thank you for catching that!

Should be fixed now. Sorry for the inconvenience, check out the new download and it should have the proper range, components, and school of magic.
Apparently the entire header was set to defaults. Thanks again for pointing it out

Oh, honestly I hadn't thought to add them. I can totally do that, but I'd probably have to find the files for them lol

Forgive me for the long wait, but I've finally found some time to work on these. Check out the new PDFs! They have the updated cover art in the actual product, and I've gone ahead and updated each of the spellbooks with updates (mostly buffs) to the spells, where needed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
