The Avid Adventurers Guide to Exotic Variants (5E)

Over the coming... eh... however long. This will continually be expanded, I work in a "higgedly piggedly" chaotic way but it works for me, but for the time being this PDF contains

Disregarding the current "contents page" for a moment

  • 4 variant Hobgoblins, 3 involving "The Rite of Burning", a brutal undertaking for the most hardy of Hobgoblins sure to set a spark of fear down your players spines and the last being a horrendously, manic and diseased creature.
  • 4 Kobold variants (technically 5 but I'm not including the slightly altered winger versions), One who plays with fire, one who is twisted with plagues and another who lives in the figid northern ice wastes, along with their leader, The Cold King.
  • 1 Orc and 1 Ogre grossly swollen and twisted by disease and plague.
  • 4 Goblins , 1 with a flaming temper, 3 infected with vile plagues
  • 2 Cultists, A  master and his apprentice, aspiring to be one with the Kuo Toas great god, Dagon.
  • 1 Zombie, cursed, or blessed with sentience by magic and left to rot in crypts and tombs.
  • 1 Small beast and 2 Large beasts, that hides among the canopies and roots of the trees in great, steaming jungles. Another that might seem familiar bur is definetly an oddity of nature.
  • 2 Behemoths a peaceful planes dwelling herbivore from an era forgotten and a carnivorous hunter, with a deathly smile.
XP and CR may be wonky, still figuring out how that would work considering they are just altered versions of common monsters, but I'm almost certain that any fussed by that can figure out how much xp to award their players based on performance :D
Few of the creatures that closely resemble the originals are hugely more powerful than their original counterparts and may be a challenge but not an issue for players who have an idea of how their characters work... and in extension a DM who heeds the text and warning I've noted here and there.
USE THESE CREATURES SPARINGLY FOR MAXIMUM EFFECT

I also explain some of the ecology and smaller details but as with anything you as a DM are the ultimate law of your game, so tweak wherever you feel suitable!

NB- This includes my other title (which is pay what you want) Plagued! which includes the disease and plague theme foes contained herein (admittedly within this PDF they are more polished)

The page count on the side bar... over there -->

Isn't all the pages, it is just the pages that have monster stat blocks on it, for a more accurate representation of what your hard earned pennies are going towards

Explanations of the newer mechanics are included in the descriptors on stat blocks, if you notice anything missing, or (Corellon forbid) anything is either unclear or just outright jibberish please feel free to point it out, or message me or just allow me to fix it so that others can enjoy without having to crack open the decryption tools.

Any constructive critique is more than welcome. Note, CONSTRUCTIVE.

As stated, this will expand, slowly (life is hard) but it will expand.

It may get to a point where this reaches a point and the project reaches a size that I may increase the asking price owing to as you may imagine, time spent, effort put in etc.

-The Cult of The Rite of Burning in the Hobgoblin society (3 variants)

Made using Natural Crits Homebrewery  - Meaning A4 pages are out of the question and leave a seriously annoying sizeable white bar at the bottom of every page

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
