CCC-GARY-04: The Darkness of the Mountains

In the shadow of the Galena Mountains, outside the Glumpen forest, the scars of the ancient war with the kingdom of the Witch King still lay fresh and exposed to the night air. A trade route between the regions of Vaasa and Damara have, through the years, created a crossroads at Aetherglen. The people who live there have an abiding honor for their dead, and the graveyards are shrines to their forebears. As you pass through, however, you are waylaid by a mysterious man who tells you that the dead are restless, and something worse may be stirring ‘neath the huge Gulthias trees of the forest.

CCC-GARY-04: The Darkness of the Mountains, another good tier one event that gets the players into the action rather quickly (point here, having been a player I prefer to get to the action vis' hearing the DM ramble on for scene setters) a few checks a few nudges from the NPC and the players are knee deep in skeletons and zombies. The only minor drawback is that if players do not pay attention that they are heading to a small town they may not take the time to gear up prior to leaving the confines of a larger city setting

Is the reward (no spoilers) considered a permanent magical item? I DM'ed it for one of my venues and the question came up. I want to be able to let the player know even though he wanted the reward regardless. They did not realize it was a trilogy, so now they want me to finish it as they want to know what happens next! A lovely problem to have. Thanks for the adventure. =)

As it's a flavor item and has no impact on play (I mean, the sound it makes is pretty disturbing) I wouldn't consider it to be qualified as a permanent magical item, as far as totalling up your items.

Is Aetherglen an existing Realms location, or was it created specifically for this series?

Created specifically for the series. The crossroads on which it sits is an existing Realms location, so you could just consider Aetherglen an unincorporated community.

Isn't the crossroads the Bloodstone Pass? Or am I completely misplacing this town?

This village is located at _a_ crossroads. Specifically between Castle Vathar and the edge of the Quivering Forest.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
