Codex of the Infinite Planes

Collection I: The Inner Planes

The secrets, mysteries, monsters, and more of air, earth, fire, and water, collected together at last!

The mythical Codex of the Infinite Planes is a massive book containing information on the very planes of existence. Too many for one document to tackle, so it's been divided up into volumes covering individual planes.

Crack open the Codex in this first collection of the individual volumes and learn all about the Inner Planes! Collecting and re-sorting the following Codex of the Infinite Planes articles - Volume 1 Plane of Fire, Volume 2 Plane of Water, Volume 3 Plane of Earth, Volume 4 Plane of Air, and Volume 5 Border Elemental Planes.

Inside this collection you'll find the following information ...

* An overview of the Inner Planes, with individual chapters covering each of the four core Inner Planes and one for the border realms between them. Each chapter includes ways to get there, how to survive, how to get around, and what to avoid

* A look at the powerful entities in each plane, such as the Elemental Lords of each distinct realm, powerful organizations, and dangerous patrons!

* 46 monster statistics, from the fire flies (challenge 1) of the Plane of Fire all the way up to the noble djinni (challenge 14) of the Plane of Air! Organized alphabetically, a helpful chart is also provided listing the monsters by challenge rating.

* Hazards to avoid on each plane!

* Interesting sites and treasures to be found across the Inner Planes!

* Adventure hooks for all tiers of play!

* Random encounter tables for each plane!

* Fifteen new subclasses - one barbarian (Path of the Reaver), four cleric (Air, Earth, Fire, Water), one fighter (Stone Breaker), one paladin (Oath of Clarity), one ranger (Wind Runner), one rogue (Firedancer), one sorcerer (Ooze Magic), one warlock (River of Rage), and four wizard (Aeromancy, Geomancy, Hydromancy, Pyromancy)!

* Four new backgrounds - Brass Slave, Deep Miner, Drowned, and Skyflyer!

The Codex of the Infinite Planes awaits ... will you risk opening it?

Playing Princes of the Apocalypse and was interested in the Codex to help me build some elemental themed NPCs. I do not see any of the classes in the previews, could someone let me know what they thought of the subclasses?

Are there any plans for hard copies?

A hardcover version? Not really, at least not in the near future. Ideally I would wait until I had more art, specifically for the monsters, before doing a hardcover version, but that's not really on the radar right now.

Received my print copy today. Used the PDFs as a basis for my planar campaign I ran with my group. We all had an absolute blast.

I noticed a minor formatting bug on pg 117 in the Brass slave section where the Freedom table covers up some of the Planar knowledge paragraph

Son of a gun, you are absolutely right! I'll get it updated and uploaded soon. I'm looking to make a few other minor layout updates as well, so it dovetails nicely into that. Thank you for the catch!

Just out of curiosity, how does this fit in with the planescape books? As an update, expansion, or something else?
Looks great! Just curious as to what to expect given I’ve got the planescape material.

No problem! I modeled the Codex of the Infinite Planes articles off of the Manual of the Planes books from 1E, 3E, and 4E primarily, but with a lot of information (especially in the sites & treasures section of each plane) I came up with myself as a means of populating the planes with interesting places to visit. I tried not to duplicate information from any of the Planescape books, specifically the Inner Planes guide by Monte Cook for this collection, but there is some overlap in basic planar properties (though I took more inspiration on the planar properties from the 5E DMG). My goal was to make these articles as useful to the DM as possible to build compelling, engaging, and fun adventure experiences across the planes, without simply reprinting information from previous sources. I hope this helps!

Indeed it does! Great to know that it augments doesn't replace. I'll pick up a POD copy on my next order. Are there any short term updates planned (only asking for the printing aspect of it).

Nothing planned at this point. The proof I received looks pretty good upon my review! Thank you for the support!

Is there art for the creatures? Also if I got this would you allow me to make it into a FG mod and send it to you so others may use it if they ask you for it?

Unfortunately art for the monsters was outside my budget for the project at this time :( I won't rule it out as a future possibility, but for now the art is mainly the same as what was in the previous codex entries.

I think I would be totally interested in a Fantasy Grounds version! If you could reach out to me directly at weirddave@cuttothechasegames.com I'd be happy to discuss more details. Thank you!

Awesome--I'm gonna keep checking back for it--I put one of your individual planes write-ups in my wishlist because I saw you were going to do this bundle--then I put the bundle in my wishlist so that I get a reminder to come back and check for the POD.

Is there anything new in this collected set that was not in the original individual sections?

Nothing substantial. I added an intro chapter and cleaned up the layout of the monsters, compiling the content from the first five volumes, but it's mainly a consolidation of those earlier volumes. I'd like to have a POD version and this was also the easiest path towards that it seemed. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
