The Sylvan Harp

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Thorn Hag, an ancient evil thought vanquished by the Elf Queen and her heroic companions many years ago, has arisen from the dead. A fey harp, created from the heart of the treant that perished in the battle, has gone missing from Satyrs' Glen and the Thorn Hag seems to be behind it. The PCs must track the missing harp through a warped and eerie wood and into an unseelie area of the Feywild to stop the Thorn Hag wreaking revenge upon the Elf Queen before it's too late - the clock is ticking.

The Sylvan Harp is a D&D 5e adventure for 4-5 PCs of the 1st tier (Levels 1-4). The adventure has been designed with suitable alternatives to run the adventure for 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th-level characters, including advice for adapting creature numbers and/or powers to suit the level of your party. The adventure is estimated to take 8-12 hours to run. A timeline of events, and guidelines on how the actions of the PCs can affect those events, is included.

The adventure includes nine new creatures: gwerthin, satyr bard, ash guardian, light guardian, treant spirit, pixie rot zombie, green dragon skeleton, thorn hag and thorn hag's hut. It also includes two new magical items: a powerful magical harp with a dark hidden secret and a crystal ball of clairvoyance. Also includes a player handout of the rhyming riddle of the fey, and maps of the area and a darkling tomb. Requires Volo's Guide to Monsters.

This looks very fun and I'm excited to run it for my players. Would you be willing to make a more printable version without the background image/texture? Thanks!

Hi Sarah
Thanks for your feedback. I'll start working on a print friendly version. It might not be immediate as I'm in the middle of a full-on editing job for a client at the moment but if I can find some time it'll be the first thing I'll do.

Hi Sarah
I found the time! You should now be able to download the file without the background.

I have now run about 6 adventures for my party of 6 players, We went through the Sylvan Harp at either 2nd or 3rd level and it was a definite favorite of my players. The loved that they had choices on how to resolve the adventure and my players talked the Elvin Queen into giving them a lock of her hair in return for Harp. Was not how I expected them to deal with it but if you give them choices you never know how they will go about accomplishing the adventure. The way my players played the adventure there was a lot of role playing opportunity and some combat. Strongly recommend implementing this module in your early campaign. For one reason you learn a lot about your party and what makes them tick that can be used later.

If you're following "Dungeon Tales #1" (https://www.dmsguild.com/product/239004/Dungeon-Tales-1) I wouldn't try to segue straight into this from "Midnight Revelry", as there are too many similarities - a town harassed by fey, an unwitting satyr at the center of it, a foggy ominous forest, a portal to the feywild... at first glance it may seem ripe for them merging into one another, but each of those elements are so tied to their own reasons in the respective stories, that either you would have to do a tonne of re-writing to make it cohesive, or, transition via one of the plot hooks and then have the players experiencing a lot of de-ja-vue as you hit very similar beats throughout the story! Save it for a later adventure.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
