One-Shot: Sullied Waters

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A town of sea elves has been ruled over by a democratic council for centuries. It has been a place of peace — but now someone has killed a member of the council. To complicate matters, the murdered is undoubtedly someone else on the council. It’s up to the adventurers to figure out who the killer is and stop whatever nefarious plans they’re brewing.

A One-Shot Adventure

Sullied Waters is an original, one-shot adventure in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. It is meant for use with D&D’s fifth edition rules, and it can be run with any number of players of 3rd to 14th level. As a one-shot, it is short and straightforward. DMs could run it as a sampler for new players, partner it with other one-shot adventures, or use it as a side-quest in a larger campaign. It’s up to the DM!

Using This Adventure

Because of its nature as a one-shot, the adventure leaves out certain details. Before you begin, you’ll need to decide the specifics of the beachside town. Name it and give it some traits. The only thing that’s required is the town is either entirely or majority sea elves.

I'd say 2-3 hours, maybe a little longer.

Sorry, I have another question! I'm not clear on how many foes are supposed to be in the final battle with the Sahuagin. I'm pretty new to DM-ing and this will only be my 3rd adventure I run so it might be that I'm not able to understand the instructions on how to assign enemies based on player level..
I will have about 7 players all at Level 1. From the table I'm calculating that I should have Sahuagin and Sahuagin Priestesses, what I don't know is how many of each foe I should use? I can't see this information anywhere, and as a very new DM I don't want to pick a figure that would be too difficult - or too easy.
Thanks for your help!

Is this purley role play? I'm considering targeting it at a 2nd level party in my Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign and want to check is it level appropriate?

There's a good amount of roleplay, but it's not entirely. It can work with any number of players at any level.

I had a hard making sense of it, too, as I read through it. How did they know it was the sixth person (under the "Stuff that the Players Know" section at the beginning)?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
