Gunslinger - based on Existing Mechanics only

This document implements a concept of the Gunslinger for D&D 5e that is entirely based on existing rules and mechanics from the PHB. Firearms are defined based on the existing Crossbow rules, and three Gunslinger subclasses are defined as reskins of the Fighter Champion, Fighter Battle Master, and Ranger Hunter subclasses. The changes to the existing mechanics are minimal and mostly for flavor, therefore maintaining the balance built by the original game designers.

Nice. Looks like a straightforward way of making a gunslinger using only slight modifications to the PHB sources. Treating firearms as equivalent to crossbows, rather than using the firearms in the DMG, was a good way to balance it without having to make a new class (which is the approach I and several others on this site took).

The one thing I would tweak is Reflex Attack. Currently, it is strictly better than Riposte. What do you think about changing the triggering attack from a melee attack to a ranged attack, and/or changing the reaction attack from a weapon attack to a ranged weapon attack?

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I debated those alternatives for Riposte also. As defined, Reflex Attack is indeed more flexible than the original Riposte, allowing you to use a range weapon for the reaction, but I thought it was ok since you'd have disadvantage in that case (unless you invested on the feat). Changing the trigger would have worked well, but it would have changed the nature of the maneuver completely. Changing the reaction to ranged only would have made it strictly worse than Riposte (due to the disadvantage). So I ended up going with the more flexible Reflex Attack. Also, that way if you find yourself without your gun for any reason, you could still use Reflex Attack equivalently as the old Riposte (that's also while I called it Reflex Attack instead of Reflex Shot). But others should feel free to tweak these changes with their DMs to whatever works best for them.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
