The Dark Maiden - A Ship in Port Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Dark Maiden is a short adventure that is set in Teshburl, Calimshan, but it could easily be adapted to any port city. It concerns a slavers ship docked in the harbor, and a midnight exchange between the slavers and a local mage. The players are introduced to the adventure after they encounter a dwarf in the market, who is being sold into slavery. He begs them for aid, claiming that if they free him he’ll tell them where they can find a great treasure.

I've written a sequel to this adventure as well, where the Dark Maiden is sailed to the Tethyrian port city of Zazesspur: Ill Luck in Old Zazesspur.

It can also be found in a bundle of adventurers that I've produced. You can also find this adventure as part of my EVERYTHING ANDREW JAMES WOODYARD BUNDLE, both of which are sold at discounted prices compared to the combined retail prices of the PDFs within them.

Even at less then 2 dollars, I feel swindled by this product. "Adventure" is stretching it thin. This is 4 pages of badly formatted prose with no maps, no stat blocks and no clear indication of where one part of the story ends and the next one starts (paragraph spacing and headings are your friend).

This adventure was described as a short adventure, which as a buyer you can see it's only four pages long, and you can preview two of those pages. That being said, you purchased it for only $1.87, essentially loose change. However, to provide a better product, I'll have a better formatted version to replace it up on DMG within a week (I've already begun editing the PDF). This new version will be easier to read, will have information where to find an appropriate map for the adventure (from the Dungeon Masters Guild), and will note where to find statistical information regarding the creatures in the adventure (within the Monsters Manual). In addition, I'll make sure to add some extra flair to the adventure. You and everyone who ever purchased the adventure will be able to download the new version for free.

Agreed, it is loose change but it's no more loose change than many other products on the Guild. I very much appreciate the response though. I think it's great that you are updating the product.

The updated version of this adventure is now online. It should be far more readable now (I'll probably have to edit a few more of my older adventure uploads as well), I've edited the whole adventure to make it easier to understand, put notations in as to what map to use from the Dungeon Masters Guild, along with clearing up some issues with the encounters in the adventure. I've also included a small segment involving a priest of Bhaelros (when I originally wrote this adventure it was included). There is no map of the city of Teshburl, where it takes place, but seeing that I produce high end fantasy maps for Faerun (non-canon), then I may end up producing one and adding it down the line as well.

It's roughly levels 3-5. I'll modify the cover to reflect that.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
