Items for Social Encounters (5e)

Combat, exploration and social interaction are the three pillars of adventure, but have not always been equally represented in magic item tables. This supplement contains 51 listings of items for social encounters to redress the balance.

Reasons to take a look inside:

  • Have you ever spoken a little too soon and instantly regretted your choice of words? Get hold of the Halter of Loose Lips for the filter your mother wished she'd raised you with!
  • Is the obviously evil chancellor schmoozing his way through the kingdom right under your nose? It's time for the Wand of Flatulence! It may not stop him, but it's the little things that make adventuring worth the cost.
  • Tired of hearing the Priestess of Lolth monologue? The Wand of Stilled Voices will let her keep going in her head, while sparing the rest of us.
  • Need more dance in your adventure? The Terpsichorean Tiara rewards you for dancing your way through life, as if that wasn't already its own reward.
  • Does your mind race with the possibilities of unlimited fertilizer? Truly, what problem can't be solved!? The Farmer's Friend is your friend too!
  • Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to get in your companions' heads? Try the Elixir of Common Mind if that's an idiom, or the Potion of Headswapping if it's literal.
  • Do you spend hours caring for your hair, wondering if it would ever return the favor? Time to find out with the Comb of Awakening!
  • Has your company been spurned just because you carry the aroma of a well-travelled adventurer? Time to don the Headpiece of Perfumes (or, you know... take a bath)!
  • Do you need to fight bats, fall prone, navigate canals and come home to a warm meal? The Duck of Many Things is here to serve!
  • Was Curse of Strahd too tame for you? Are you prepared for a truly horrific experience? Experience this pdf's formatting and weep!

As a DM I am tasked to interact with my players in ways other than dropping rocks on their characters and hitting them with crazy monsters who want nothing better than to eat their souls. I need to roleplay with them. I enjoy doing that however it beco [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
