Praise for The Beast of Bastion Bay

"The adventure itself is compelling, interesting, twisty, and above all, fun! The art and cartography are amazing. At the price point, The Beast of Bastion Bay is one of the best buys on the Guild today! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" - Travis L., 5 stars

Bastion Bay has become a bustling trade hub under the guidance of the cunning Capa Meriosa - but all is not well in the former pirate town. A monstrous undead shark stalks the seas, sinking any ship that gets too close; the newly built light house has gone mysteriously dark; and rumours swirl of twisted witches and other horrid things stalking the night. The port has been shut with no ships allowed to leave and tensions are running high. Bastion Bay is on a knife edge, and a new ship is just pulling into port...

The Beast of Bastion Bay is an adventure for the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons! It is designed for 3-5 5th level characters, and assumes a wide range of skills and abilities. It is designed to be played across multiple sessions and should take between 5 and 10 hours to complete. The adventure centres on the port town of Bastion Bay but can easily be transferred to any small or medium port town as long there are nearby islands and caves. This adventure was designed to have an equal balance of combat, exploration, and role-playing encounters.

The Beast of Bastion Bay is the first installment in the Adventure on Tap series. Each adventure is created to make running the game as simple as possible for the Dungeon Master. With this adventure you get:

  • A professionally designed 30+ page PDF with a clear and easy to read layout. Includes both a full colour version and a printer friendly version.
  • A map pack containing full colour hand drawn maps, printer friendly maps, player safe maps, and gridless maps for easy online play
  • At-a-glance difficulty markers for every combat encounter
  • 6 brand new unique magic items, one of which hides a powerful curse!
  • 3 new creatures, including the mysterious éadóchas
  • A section dedicated to the vibrant town of Bastion Bay and its strange locations and eccentric ex-pirate residents - perfect fuel for any DM to grow their own stories!
  • Helpful hints and tips on running the adventure, gleaned from "in the trenches" experience from over 20 years of Dungeon Mastering

You can find the other adventures in the Adventures on Tap series, The Graveyard Shift here and Ring Out, Wild Bells here.

Emmet - I did not find a map of Bastion Bay in the maps collection. Did I miss it or did you not make one? I love the degree of detail you give for the town, so I was expecting one.

For some reason can't leave my review as a review, so I'll leave it here. This is amazing! A really good balance of intrigue and investigation along with really tough and interesting combat. My players were falling in the ocean and really getting scared of the old man. I added in a few tavern games and my players went off plot a couple times (as players oft do!) and it took us about 6 hours. There's information on everything in the pdf, character info, town background. Really it's a full package and totally worth the price. Very impressed and I'll definitely be checking out more by this author!

This is going to be a thorough post about this module.

So i guess I should have made my account when I went to purchase it if I want to leave a review. Shame. But I'll do my best to leave my feedback on this.

First off, let me start by saying I ran this in a very VERY homebrewed setting that I try to distance from typical Forgotten Realms. Several characters off the bat had to be race swapped off the bat (such as Dwarves not existing and becoming Germanic Humans, etc). Dunno how much that affected everything but I generally stayed true to the source material outside some race swaps and name swaps (Bastion Bay became Sindair, etc).

Anyway. First off, I wouldn't reccomend this to a party of level 5s of 3 or more unless the DM is aware they should mess with stat blocks. My group consisted of a Necromancer Wizard, a Monk, and a Barbarian starting out this module and they killed the Old Man in 3 rounds while sailing into the town on the first time. When they came back around to...See more

Hello,

Thank you for the incredibly kind feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying the adventure. I'd love to hear more feedback when you complete it. Its nice to hear good stuff, but the bad stuff is usually better for learning and improving!

All the best

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
