I have run this adventure several times. It is wonderful in setting, story, and mechanics.
I'm looking to transfer it to Roll20 for my social distancing group.
I am struggling with getting the images and maps to transfer to the Roll20.
Any tips?

Hey Ben,

thanks for your purchase. Unfortunately I am not that well versed in Roll20 myself. Since you did not specify on what you are struggling (i.e. do you convert the PDF to image files? The Maps now also come as high res image files. OR do you struggle to put the files into Roll20 itself), it is hard to give advice...

Florian,
Sorry for the vagueness and thank you for the response.
Specifically, I have the PDF and am looking to import the amazing maps, and scene/ character images into the roll20. So that I can play on the maps and reveal the art to my players.
I will have to look for those high res image files.
Thank you for the awesome product and hours of engaging gameplay.

Hey Ben,

thank you for clarifying. The maps are in a special .zip container. The art, I unfortunately can't share raw and only as PDF. Though there are probably some tools to convert those.

Some of the art has been shared by the artist, you can find them here: https://www.artstation.com/maraart

**spoilers**
I am running this soon, so these comments are based on my prep. I wish there was an ink-friendly version for printing, and I got a little lost with how the adventure is organized. I wish it was clearly set up around the drugging. For example, I wish there was a section around If the characters fall asleep, and a section for if they did not. Right now, both outcomes are jumbled together.

Hey there, thank you for your comment. To your questions

1] The team actually looked into a nice print friendly version, but it never worked out with a clean layout. So we focused all our energies on the Print on Demand version and adding tokens etc. to this

2] While this was under consideration, the text within AFTERSHOW is miniscule and playtesters actually voted for folding both outcomes together. Though having said this, I think your solution have merits, too.

Thanks though for giving feedback, these comments are still invalueble to me. With your diligent prep, I dearly hope you have a blast of a time running this!

Does anyone knows the map scale for Roll20?

CREATOR
Hey,

thanks for reaching out. I am in no way a pro when it comes to Roll20 (and i guess in this time we have some influx in players migrating there). According to this page https://wiki.roll20.net/Page_Settings you should be able to set the cell width at 38 px (I checked the cell width for the map myself).

Let me know if that did the trick for you!
Customer avatar
Chuck W April 06, 2020 8:32 am UTC
That's not correct. It's 70px by default. The grid size and the map size are completely adjustable though. I don't recommend making maps to 100% scale in roll20 because the performance is terrible. I'd rather have a map that's a little stretched than deal with constant scroll and zoom lag. So, my advice for anyone making roll20 maps is to keep it under 1080.

Florian E April 06, 2020 9:25 am UTC

Oh, I was not talking about the default. The grid size of the map bundled with the Shore of Dreams module is 38px, and thus I recommended setting the grid size to 38px. Though I'll admit, maybe I am still missing something and not correctfully understanding your comment, you seem to be much more savvy than I am when it comes to Roll20.

So i just was in Roll20 to check myself, with my described settings of the page; but essentialy set the dimensions of the map in toll 20 to the dimensions of the provided map and set the size of the grid to 38 pixels. It really worked great with minor adjustments on my side. Also you might look into this https://wiki.roll20.net/Aligning_Maps

Hope this helps, have fun playing on Roll20

*BEWARE: For anyone wanting to play this as a PC and not as a DM, there's some slight spoilers below.

Hi Florian, awesome work on this module! I'm about to run this as a one shot this weekend (gonna be my second attempt ever at DM'ing, pretty excited/nervous). I had my players roll a d20 days in advance for the curtain call event, and it ends up that one of them will notice Scorch 'doing the thing as described in the module'.

I was wondering if you have any tips on how to get the players to eat the food in this instance. Obviously them NOT eating it is also a viable option, but I'm worried that with Murasa giving them a warning the night before and me describing the cook putting some dust on the food, the whole party will become incredibly suspicious despite the fact that they're distracted.

I was thinking about making the food a 'Heroes Feast' to imply some (fake) buffs when eating it, or perhaps saying that not eating anything would grant them a level of exhaustion the...See more

Hey there Rob,

thank you for reaching out. Don't worry about your PCs noticing, in that regard the [Aftershow] event will go in full effect and let a certain overseer step in so that a certain tavern owner can get to where she needs to get. There is also merit in them putting everything to an end at a certain tavern ;) and still need to explore a certain location to find certain missing people, Murasa would surely be glad and than there might be curiosity. So don't search ways to negate their rolls, rather celebrate that they did so and let the player have their moment and shine! There is still enough adventure to go around... Also remember a certain cook is already acting suspicious, so they might not put two and two together until the overseer steps and and probably will want to talk about the safety regulations of kitches in the Forgotten Realms; Restaurant Health Inspection: The Adventure ;).

If you don't want the party be too suspicious tell the player in private in advance or slip...See more

Hey Griffin,

sorry for the late reply and thanks for your purchase. I would say it depends as Room T4. can be taxing to new players, as it throws a lot towards and some players might be overtaxed. With that said, I might be overly cautious on this side, but nobody wants to end their first session with rolling a new character... again.

With that said I at least recommend an average party level of 6 or 7, if you want to be on the safe side.

I just got the package in the mail with my print version and I'm disappointed at the lack of printed maps and handouts. Looking at the asterisk before I purchased, I believed it was indicating that the maps were included if you purchased the digital AND PDF, not that the maps were only included AS PDFs. This wording needs to be made more clear.

Still, looking forward to running this as a one-shot with coworkers in the near future, but I'm going to have to get the maps and handouts printed up separately.

Hello Will,

thank you for your comment. While I would have loved to offer those as print-outs that are sent to you, this is unfortunately not how the print on demand program works. While I thought that the wording was not elusive, I also have no intention to accidently deceive anyone. I made the wording a little bit clearer and hope you can apologize this unintended mistake.

Hope you still going are having a wonderful blast!

P.S.: The benefit of not having those hand out, are that we could UPDATE the print-outs, as I did with the new Pisca hand out, that was not originally part of the product :).

Ran the adventure in a totally different setting (a Hungarian fantasy rpg developed in the 90s), it still worked perfectly and my party had loads of fun. Hey there Jonathan; thank you for your comment. While we acknowledge that a map of the town would have been dreamy ;), the hand out for a fake map did not come up during the playtests or the other reports we are getting :). Though we understand this would have been something nice to show to players.

Our decision against a map of Yokotoro was an internal discussion about wanting to have a lot of versions of Yokotoro that were right for each and every player.

However with our newly announced Warriors of Sehanine and the free to grab (or to donate) Serving the Squash we learned from past mistakes and you will find approriate location maps and hope you can forgive us with Shore of Dreams and hope you had fun with the abundance of TrashMobMinis that hopefully slayed your party with cuteness and style!

Hi, read through the adventure. Looks awsome! Great work!
Any tipps to scale it up for three lvl 11 players?
Customer avatar
Florian E April 04, 2019 7:25 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hey Marc,

first of all thank you for purchasing Shore of Dreams. You are wonderful. I must admit, this is a tough one, as you have a party roughly five level over what I think is the sweet spot, but also you have one body less.

With that, I think you should always be wary and make quick changes on the fly.

1] I think you can safely approach the adventure with APL 8 or 9 in mind, so you migitate for one player less.
2] Action economy will be a crucial factor, with that in mind I don't suggest any changes to room T4.
3] Just change the main cast & the Tempest Beast. The Tempest Beast and a certain martial arts expert are straightforward to convert using the DMG.
4] When upgrading the main villain, choose thematic spells that give her an edge in deceipt and let her try to prey on a weak party, though again, don't go over board, you want to challenge them, not outright kill them off.
5] As I suggested below in Lisa's question, if you want to add a...See more

CREATOR
Hey Lisa,

thank you for reaching out, while it will be hard to scale things that way back, like everything D&D it is not impossible. We recommend roughly the following remedies.

Scale down the enemies as every enemy assumes roughly four party members, even those found in the Monster Manual. There is a whole section in the Dungeon Master's Guide about that, so give this a stern look. For example for the Guards don't use the suggested Veteran but the actual guard statblock found in the Monster Manual

Since this module is done in two parts, you can try things out in the combat encounter at the first part and get a feeling.

The second part would be a bit trickier, especially in room T4. So be very merciful.

Another cool way to bring the party to the more or less required four persons would be having the prisoners go along with your party and you can quickly whip out an additional character sheet per character. Ranger and Babarian would be the two...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
