Fantasy Grounds 5E Book of Lost Spells Effects Coding

This a module for the Fantasy Grounds VTT software.

(This product contains CODING only and does NOT contain any spell descriptions from Frog God Games “Book of Lost Spells”.  That is a separate product.  This is an addendum for coding purposes only for Fantasy Grounds VTT. Just to be clear - in order to make full use of this module, you would need to purchase the Fantasy Grounds version of “Book of Lost Spells” as well.)

Why the high price?  There are 708 codes (most with multiple entries) and the price is calculated at .03 USD per coding set.  There are 708 x .03 = 21.24 (rounded to the next highest ninety five cent price point), so $21.95.  This is the same rough algorithm used for all the Rob Twohy (rob2e) coding structures.  It's a LOT of work to get this accomplished, but the whole idea is so that YOU don't have to do it.

Do you play or DM Fantasy Grounds D&D 5E?

This package delivers all of the coding effects for spells and PC sheet Actions tab in drag and drop format! DMs viewing the combat tracker will always know the status on any spell, where the effects are applied, and who the caster was if it is concentration. No more stopping your game to code spells. Drag, drop, KEEP PLAYING!

Fantasy Grounds coding for over 700+ spells done right.

Example:

Dragging the Shillelagh cantrip to the Actions tab on the PC sheet builds no effect.

This package will build effects as follows:

Cast: Melee attack + modifier

Dmg: 1d8 bludgeoning

Effect: Shillelagh; [SELF] (for 1 min)

With EACH spell that has or needs effects, titles are applied and concentration notes and times are provided.

Also for easier use for both players and DMs -

In the spell titles, there will usually be symbols.

This is the key for those symbols:

(60) - Range - this will be a range in feet 30, 60, 90, etc.

(S) - Self - sometimes listed with a corresponding range

(T) Touch

(C) Concentration

(B) Bonus Action

(R) Reaction

(RIT) Ritual

($) Component cost

(SD) for SHIFT DRAG effects explained in the module

This will be a great time saver for players and ESPECIALLY DMs!

I welcome suggestions and feedback. Please let me know. And feel free to adjust accordingly.

I bought this yesterday. I have FG ultimate, I have EVERY FG Dnd 5E in the bundle set. I do not have FG book of lost spells yet. I plan to play DnD AL games, so....I am not going to use the BOLS since those spells would not be legal AL spells. I bought this because the video showed coding for legal AL spells from the PHB. I can see lists of coding spells. BUT I cannot find a single one that is in DnD 5E. Do I need to purchase the FG BOLS? I cannot find any spells from the ones in your video. Am I doing something wrong? I placed the singular file in my mods folder. then fired up the FG. Also, no instructions came with the download, even though the video implied there was. Sorry. There might have been an update?

Hey Dustin, ya, the video is the same for both, no reason to do another video for the same education. I did NOT, however, realize someone might see the video and buy the wrong one. Sorry about that.

its okay, Nothing a quick edit on the example text and description above can't fix, right!. I actually DID find the other one in your 2016-2017 package deal.... that I bought the same day! Beautiful work.... holy crap dude. Sadly I will not have a use for this one yet. BUT..... if I venture into homebrew, I will keep it in mind. Since I already had downloaded the product and opened it, before I spotted my error. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I can't in good conscious change the order now. I probably would have used the money to get the Wayfinders guide to Eberron even though it's not AL legal... yet. (I can't pick any of your other works for 5E that are DnD AL....... I sort bought them all. yes even the 2018 stuff. ha!) The wife failed her perception check on the credit card.....(Grin), but the credit card did fail it's death saves in the process. A noble sacrifice. I shall burn the credit card statement in its honor.
Anyways, I hope you are working on season 8 conversions from AL. They really did some crazy change ups!...See more

This really made me laugh. I used to be a professional stand-up. You're funny dude. I don't work on AL stuff myself, but I just DID finish coding Eberron for Fantasy Grounds. Should be out in a few days. I will then, of course, add all class, feat, spell, and race codings to each of those things accordingly, although there is very little (so far).

well, I never did stand up, but I have made people urinate, shart, puke-laugh, cry, and spit-take. I call it my "mop bucket" list. It's a life goal that I love to repeat. I am a writer working on my first trilogy for publication with a publishing house, so being witty does help. Unless you are an encyclopedia writer....I guess that would be counter-intuitive. They only get to be half as witty...... (wink). I do role-play games to relax and ignore my responsibilities, uh, I mean..."research inspirational materials." I will look out for the coding. Thanks for the heads up.

I have both this and the Book of Lost Spells for Fantasy Grounds. I definitely want the encoding on my players sheets, but I also want them to have the quick, click the shield icon access to the full spell description so they know what their spells do without having to search them up in the Book of Lost Spells each time (previously, dragging their spells over to their sheet from the Book of Lost Spells also contained the description info). Is there a way to get the best of both worlds on a player's sheet without duplicating the spells from the different sources?

Patrick, so that's a qualified answer. Yes and no. The "no" part is we could not include that as part of the coding because that is a HARD COPYRIGHT violation. Why would people need to buy the Book of Lost Spells if we included the description? We can only include the codings. The "yes" part is that you CAN (one by one if you so desire), open the spell descriptions form the version you own and COPY them into the coding version. A giant pain, but worth it if you need that.

Will you be doing Elminsters Guide to Magic? http://www.dmsguild.com/product/221735/Elminsters-Guide-to-Magic

Hi Jake, there are no current plans to do the codes for Elminsters Guide to MAgic, we haven't even secured the Fantasy Grounds conversion itself.

Ah alright! I understand, I wasn't sure if there was an FG conversion of that one or not.

Ask those authors for the FG conversion, might push it along.

I have asked them and they said that they do plan on it, so that's good!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
