"A quick glance down the authors column of this high quality book reveals some of my favourite D&D creators - and they certainly deliver the goods! Everyone will find something to love in this fantastic volume. The DM in me really enjoyed the new sanity rules, the story items, and - chaos armor! Players will savor the host of new subclass options. And the whole thing looks FANTASTIC - as if it just rolled off the presses from WOTC. This book will sell thousands..."
M.T. Black, DM's Guild veteran author/designer

I love the ideas presented here but there are too many issues to make for confident use. I immediately noticed issues with Sacred Kin Barbarians cantrips and the Way of Atonement Monk.

Gotta fix this up with revisions or errata or something.

I noticed there are a lot of "notes" in the module One with red writing and a circular sunburst symbol and one with blue writing with no symbology. Who are the writers of these respective notes?
Customer avatar
Cinar D May 31, 2020 12:58 pm UTC
That is the same symbol that is in the Xanathar's Guide to Everything book, which states the notes are from the beholder Xanathar himself

It would be very nice to see this updated, with some updates for some of the sub classes and races updated to reflect how things are being balanced today. Things like the 18th level fey magic sorcerer origin being roughly the same as one of the generic metamagic options introduced in the class features UA, and the circle of seasons could be made...good, not a bunch of mild effects that take up your concentration, mixing the new Genie UA with the Noble Genie in this could create a very nice sub class. Over all a solid Book.

Are there any plans for a further update or errata? I cannot find any news regarding future plans, but even at a quick glance there do still seem to be a handful of typos. So far, I've noticed that Tumble Through Chaos for the Chaos Patron references a rolling a d4, but the table is a table for a d6. Also, the Survival Domain Domain Spell section is copy/pasted from the Entropy Domain.

So I've been spending a lot of time with the subclasses, playing a Beguiler for a year now, and it has made me love the Wizard class possibly more than I've ever loved my Arcane Trickster -- great balance, and a wonderful take on the opposite side of the same coin.

Recently I turned my gaze to the Mage Hunter and after DMing for one for several mid to high levels, I think this subclass needs some adjusting. More specifically, I think it needs to feel more like an actual "Hunter" of Mages. A Wizard who can use their Intelligence bonus for a single weapon attack, is slightly less useless than a Wizard who uses Strength or Dexterity. I felt like we need to give a Wizard an actual reason to use their weapons at all. So I came up with the following changes for my campaign that I want to share with everyone. Feel free to playtest them and then throw me your feedback.

* Arcanist Investigator: When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you learn the Detect Magic and Hunter’s Mark...See more

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but under Survival Domain (Cleric), the Domain Spells paragraph is a cut and paste of the paragraph from the Entropy Domain.

"You gain domain spells at the cleric level listed in the
Entropy Domain Spells Table. See the Divine Domain
class feature for how domain spells work."

I don't quite understand how path of atonement works. At third level:
1. whenever you use hit dice to heal, you must also roll an equal amount of hit dice and deal damage to yourself equal to the amount rolled, potentially doing even more damage than you gained first.
2. You bond yourself to a nonmagical simple weapon, you can't be disarmed of it, and it counts as a monk weapon, even though monks are proficient in all simple weapons.
3. you expend a hit dice and a ki point to deal quite a bit of extra damage.
4. Whenever you gain a permanent magic item (don't really know what a that means) You need to spend additional hit dice and Ki to use your only beneficial ability up to that point.
If this is incorrect, it really needs to be explained better. the subclass only gets anything good at 6th level, which means for any low level campaign, your going to be lagging behind until then. the ONLY beneficial things with the 3rd level feature is you can't be disarmed of a single weapon, and...See more

Page counts are listed on the right-side information bar. This one is listed as 86 pages, which matches with my softcover I bought last year.

Btw, if you or anyone else is wondering about the print quality, it's very good. As a soft-cover book, it's just a little smaller than the hardcovers on my shelf. The cover itself is glossy, and the pages are made from some heavy-weight paper.

Already looked through it before they cracked down on PDFs, and it's honestly not worth paying for. There's some great ideas in there, but it's so unbalanced that no one should be expected to spend money for access.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
