CCC-GHC-04 - Shade Of The Dark

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Deep in the forests of Cormanthor, the Golden Paragon Trading Company has set up a logging camp to harvest the valuable trees of the Midwood. Until recently, the profitable camp delivered lumber downriver to Semberholme, but its last communication spoke of attacks from forest monsters and panicked loggers unwilling to work. The Golden Paragon Trading Company needs adventurers to find the underlying cause of their timber production problems. Are the incursions simply the woodland creatures defending their home, or is something more sinister happening in the ancient forest?

Wondering how these ones will be. Part 1 t/m 3 were pretty bad. Not buying this unless it gets some good reviews...

Is anyone else having issues opening the adventure itself? I'm getting an error with it. Map Pack and Cert work fine.

What did you use? I received an error with Acrobat Reader, another friend of mine also received the same error with his copy, and I've tried downloading the file about 4 times. It downloads successfully, but when I try to open it I get "There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (109).

I opened it with Acrobat Reader 11, but I can try Acrobat Reader DC later today. In any event, I will get with the Gamehole folks and have them replace the PDF, just to be on the safe side. Check back here later today for an update.

Also, have you dowloaded any of the other adventures in the series, and if so, are they having the same issue?

I've got all the adventures in the series, the CCC-GHC-04 - Shade Of The Dark adventure pdf is the only file I'm having issues with. All the certs, map packs and other adventures work fine for me.

I third this issue. I have had problems opening the adventure document in Adobe Reader DC. Error Code (109) points to a possible corrupt pdf file.

Brian/Thomas,
I was able to verify the issue with Acrobat Reader DC. It looks like the Gamehole crew has uploaded another version of the PDF (CCC-GHC-4_Shade_of_the_Dark_v2.pdf). I just downloaded it and tested it with Acrobat Reader DC, and it seems to work. Please reply here if the new PDF does not fix your issue.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
