Outlandish Adventure Productions presents, in celebration of our Justiciar class receiving a Copper Best Seller medal:

Outlandish Justice, an additional Judiciary Division and six new spells for OAP's Justiciar Class!


Judiciary Division

The Division of Archives - Your duties include the care of the Arcane Court's libraries, and maintaining the chain of custody for evidence of magical crimes. You can also be hired to safely transport magic items and tomes with all due care. You are a distinctly magical justiciar, learning the mage hand cantrip and how to use it effectively in combat, and using your cell to shut down the magical properties of magic items.

New Spells

Arrest (2nd level) - Summon a pair of spectral manacles to bind your foes for long periods.

Indictment (1st level) - Accuse your enemies of violating magical law, dealing increased damage to them with your attacks and gaining bonuses to investigating the charges.

Interrogation (1st level) - Gain various bonuses to interviewing and otherwise interacting with the suspect of your investigation.

Judgment (5th level) - Literally throw the book at your enemy for its crimes, detonating your Tome of Magical Law for an eruption of arcane power that knocks your foes off their feet.

Objection (2nd level) - Interrupt a foe's attack or spell by loudly exclaiming "Objection!"

Subpoena (1st level) - Interview a creature by binding it to tell the truth and asking it three questions.

11/28/2017 v1.0.1 - A small hotfix making Arrest less abusable in the middle of combat, allowing creatures to potentially escape the spectral manacles if you or your allies damage them.

I allow almost all of your content in my homebrew 5e campaign due to its consistent high quality and general aesthetics (Dracoknight being the exception and not because it's bad, I just have something that does it differently.)

Concerning Arrest: I understand there might be some OGL issues, but I give every Justicar a set of Iron Bands of Billaro as part of their starting equipment. (they actually also get "magic" armor and weapons, but that has to do with how they are imbued with their Cage ability in this campaign.)

Thank you for saying so! We really love hearing that our products are being allowed and used in campaigns.

The Iron Bands of Billaro is definitely an excellent magic item that a justiciar would want. We just created Arrest because we didn't want justiciars to have to rely on DM generosity of magic items (in most of my campaigns, for example, I tend to be very stingy with magic items), so it only made sense for the Arcane Court to have developed a spell that would help keep criminals in check for extended periods.

That said, I love the lore ideas that you seem to be implying with how justiciars work in your campaign world, especially that the Binding Cell is imbued into their armor and weapons. I'd be very interested in hearing more about that!

My thinking was to bake them into the class ala the Artificer Boom Stick/Alchemy Bag with a line indicating they can only have one pair created at a time. I am comfortable with higher power games, so I understand if that's not viable for your core rules. Maybe just a sidebar that Artificers know the process for making them, then it stay's in the DM's hands but is a lot easier to justify without having to rely on luck?

Since the players haven't gone head to head with the Arcane Court just yet I haven't solidified the exact process but here's the two front runners for the investiture process and main thrust of the lore after:

That is such cool campaign lore, and all of us at OAP are so honored that you worked our products so deeply into your campaign world. I love the fact that the Arcane Court was corrupted by shady individuals, but still puts up the appearance of being good, and that it can truly become so if the players go that route later on. I also really appreciate that Emergents are basically MacGuffins in this campaign world that the Archmagi are after. Seriously, it's just so mind-blowing to me that what OAP has created have been worked into campaigns (ones that aren't my own) in really meaningful ways. Thank you so much for sharing.

Yeah, giving a rare magic item that they can constantly re-craft in base class is a little strong for balancing against the PHB, but if you're running a high-magic setting and other classes have access to similar items, I see no problem with it. One potential issue i'm seeing here is that Arrest can be used to completely stop any humanoid (and most other enemies) from attacking, with only a single saving throw as long as the Justicar or an ally stays within 5 feet. Potentially add a sentence saying that the spell ends if the creature is attacked?

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
