We've Got a Gnoll Problem

ADD TO WISHLIST >

We've Got a Gnoll Problem is a sequel to The Lost Mines of Phandelver. When the first shipment of ore from Wave Echo Cave fails to arrive in Phandalin players will set off to determine the fate of the caravan.  The journey will take them to the Sword Mountains where they will confront a growing threat to the region that must be eliminated, and the tragic tale of an undead guardian in need of aid.

We've Got a Gnoll Problem is a six hour adventure designed for 4 characters of 5th level. It is easily adaptable for any frontier setting. Included in the module are three maps of the region surrounding the Neverwinter woods, one in colour with labeled locations, another in colour without the labels and the last in black and white without the labels. Below is the colour version without labels.

Neverwinter Woods Map

Testimonial:

"This module is good ol'fashion D&D - roleplaying, difficult decisions and killing."  Dave Frauts, gamer and DM of twenty years

I'm running this right now and wondering if you've written any follow-up pieces that continue along the adventure thread for PCs seeking to get Lia's spellbooks back? Thanks!

Hi Rachel. Unfortunately, I haven't written the follow up. My plan was to have the thieves guild situated in Leilon. In a tavern was going to be an entrance to an old dungeon leading to a temple ruin. The temple was originally in service to Shar but had been taken over by the guild and converted to Mask. You could probably put the thieves guild in any location that works for your game and have the PCs retrieve it. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I hope the game goes well for you and your players!

I really like this adventure. It's well written and serves as a good side adventure after Lost Mines.
I've created a nicer version of the gnoll cave map for my game.
Here's a link to it for anyone who is interested. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TuWm8JBmWSAs6IO4_yQ2dB4y_LxMMYqq

Looking at the preview/pdf, I wonder whether there's been a font embedding problem as most of the text has ended up as Courier.

Hi Tim, That could be the case. I created this module a couple years ago. I used the DMs Guild template as a guide for creating it. I'd like to update it stylistically, I just need to find the time or hire someone to do that for me. I haven't heard from anyone else regarding the font so I'm not sure. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
