Critical Misses Tables 5e DnD

Suggested Price $1.00

What happens when you roll a natural 1 on an attack roll? According to the official rules not much!

Many 5e D&D players would like to impose a 'fumble' of some kind to mirror the effect of a critical hit on a natural 20, however I have found no truly satisfactory solutions out there. And none at all that take into account that a critical miss on a melee attack would look very different to a critical miss on a ranged weapon attack for example.

For that reason I've taken the time to generate what I hope are fun, realistic and well-balanced Critical Miss tables for every attack type namely:

1. Melee Attacks (melee weapons)

2. Melee Attacks (natural weapons)

3. Ranged Attacks (bows / crossbows)

4. Ranged Attacks (thrown weapons)

5. Spell Attacks

They have been playtested in my D&D circle for one year already, but let me know how you get on with them, and I am definitely open to amending them if more playtesting reveals areas where they can be improved. Reviews and comments much appreciated.

These tables are modified, more polished versions of those appearing on my Dungeons & Dragons blog, which I'm not supposed to link to here but you can find at:

Ps. if there are any wannabe Rogues in the room do check out my White Scorpions Assassins Guild for 5e D&D supplement, as it could lend your PC a lot of credibility and flavour.

This product gives a number of flavourful (and sometimes amusing!) options for when a player rolls a natural 1 on an attack, the infamous 'critical miss' from older editions of the game. They are split up by attack type (melee, ranged, thrown, spell) [...]

Up til now I have been using Hargrave's tables, percentile dice. This is more streamlined and covers most of the more obvious mishaps, though there is something to be said for the detail of the old percentile tables. [...]

I like that there are tables based on attack types. Some of the results can be really fun. My only objection is that magic weapons shouldn't break that easily. [...]

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
