In cursed lands, forgotten tombs, and ancient temples to dead gods, the undead hold court, waiting to fell any traveller foolish enough to venture beyond the world of the living.

You are not like the others, however. Though your curse may be the same, within your mind dwells a shadow of the mortal soul you once had, a glimmer of hope, a flicker of self awareness. Your former life is over, the lands and loves you have known as dead and buried as you should have been.

And yet, you live on. Who raised you? What did they raise you for? And for what greater purpose do you continue to struggle, even after death has claimed you as its own?

The Awakened Undead Character Race includes rules for playing undead characters of all descriptions, from lowly skeletons to ravenous ghouls, spectral ghosts, vengeful revenants, and cursed mummies. This race utilizes who you were in a past life to continue to color your character, and unifies all awakened undead under a series of shared character traits.

Will you attempt to rebuild what was lost, or seek retribution against those that took it from you? Will you strike forward as a mournfully misunderstood hero, or a vile, wholly-justified villain?

Your life is over now, and who you were no longer defines you. Now, who will you become?

I saw this and I actually had to buy it. I played your v0.3 draft as my first character (Awakened Undead: Skeleton Wizard) Such a fun character. I am totally looking forward to revisit the awakened undead :D Thanks for making my first character that much more fun!

Will there be anymore updates? It would be cool to see feats you can take based off your past race, to give u some abilities they had like a dragonborns breath

Possibly!

Feats based off of a past race would be a tricky idea, given how many races I'd have to cover to do it justice, but it could be doable. I'll keep it in mind.

What's the current version? It's saying v0.6, however it's saying v0.5.3 D:

It should be version 0.6; I definitely saw what you were talking about, though!

I re-uploaded the most recent version. Not sure if it was a slightly older version, or if I just forgot to update the version number (it happens), but either way it's been fixed.

Small correction: The artwork by David Revoy is released under the Creative Commons CC-BY Attribution 3.0 license. It's not in the public domain.

Ah, my bad. My understanding was that the creative commons license released it into the public domain, but clearly that was not the case.

I'll fix that in further updates to this product.

I've been running a skeleton cleric in a three man group for a while. The only thing that has really stuck out is the half healing, that really hurts if you don't get a chance to long rest, I often find myself with 0 hit dice. I'd be inclined to alter it to allow your own spells and class features to heal the full amount.

It's a balance issue. You got poison immunity for both the damage type & condition. Think the whole half-healing is how they balance it. Might be a nice detail if self-healing was at full, but I'd personally argue that's a risky move, might overpower the Undead a tad.

That's the basic idea.

I've asked around, and in general most people want some kind of healing reduction for undead, but not the healing immunity previous versions of this had.

It's worth mentioning that healing effects that don't call out undead, like regeneration, or spells that work differently on undead, like negative energy flood, can be effective ways of regaining hit points without any kind of reduction.

Hey, kinda confused about the inheriting from your living race. You only specify that you don't get the subraces abilities, does this mean if i were a tiefling skeleton I would get the core tiefling's Hellish Resistance and Infernal Legacy

The Past Life feature specifies what you get from the race you choose, which is limited to size, height, and land movement speed. Any other traits beyond these are lost when you die and become undead.

Been playing a Skeleton from this brew for like 5 months. Love this brew and it gets better and better with each update!

All the stuff you make is great, seriously. But uhh, is there a reason it's just images and not a pdf I can copy-paste from?

Unfortunately, that's side-effect of the method I use for making PDFs. Not much that can be done that I haven't tried. =(

That's why I typically include printsafe/selectable files alongside, to allow for copy-pasting into character sheets and similar.

No problem! The printsafe files are a fairly new development, so it's entirely reasonable to have not seen them. =)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
