CCC-LINKS-02 The Secrets We Keep

ADD TO WISHLIST >

As winter releases its grip on the region surrounding the town of Phlan, secrets are revealed within Glumpen Swamp. Strange landscapes and sigils have been found beneath the mud, and the wildlife around the swamp has become greatly agitated. At times a spectral figure can be seen in the distance, only to disappear upon approach. Can you discover what is happening in the muck and gloom?

A 4-hour Adventure for 11th – 16th Level Characters

This adventure premiered at Links Con in Okemos, Michigan in June of 2017. The Secrets We Keep is a stand-alone adventure set in Phlan and Glumpen Swamp, and is best deployed after characters have played CCC-LINKS-01 Champion of the People (as some of those NPCs are used). There are loose hooks to CCC-UCON-01 Blood & Fog but playing that adventure is not necessary for full enjoyment here.

This adventure strongly features theatre of mind-style play and a number of riddles & puzzles.

At "Copper Metal" status, a Fantasy Grounds mod file will be added. At "Silver Metal" status, maps and art for each encounter will be generated. Additional enhancements will be added over time.

UPDATE:

  • 2017.08.23 - Copper Metal achieved! This adventure has been submitted for mod file creation.
  • 2017.09.20 - Silver Metal achieved (well, a couple weeks ago)! Fantasy Grounds mod file and Tavern Map (with commercial license) have been added to this download.

I have other DM's Guild offerings, as well:

The fullsize preview is only showing a set of codes; is that intentional or is it picking up the wrong file?

Is it me or it's intended that FG mod actually doesn't include story elements?

I have 2 questions about Bootblack. (Q1) The stats on page 31 are odd. She should be a 11th level character (+4 proficiency) with 17 Dex (+3). That would imply AC 13 (16 with mage armor), instead of the listed 11 and 14. The dagger attack should be +7 hit/+3 damage, instead of the listed +5/+2. (Q2) How does she react in the last fight? On pg 15, it sounds like her device is the most important. Then it says she will attack if insulted. But then under "Tactics", it says she will run away at first opportunity.

And her challenge rating is consistent with an 18th level character. It looks like she is Rogue 7 on top of having Warlock 11, but her hit points (11d8) are way too low.

I won't be tempted by a product if I can't read at least one LINE of creative content...

I agree, a pretty poor preview.

The pages in the Quick Preview are tantalizing but ineligible. Is there some way to get the Full Size Preview to work, or is that improperly configured on the submitter's end?

That would be something on the server and outside of my control, unfortunately.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
