CCC-LINKS-01 Champion of the People

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A persistent ghost has been spotted in Phlan, flitting from building to building. The residents say that it stands in front of the Laughing Goblin every night, eyes wide and full of terror. If approached, it screams and disappears. In the wake of the town’s re-opening and the retreat of the thick winter fogs, peace must be returned before people leave for good. A D&D Adventurer’s League adventure set in the town of Phlan.

A 4-hour Adventure for 5th – 10th Level Characters

Champion of the People explores Phlan after the events of DDEP4 and the election of Calypso (as happened at Winter Fantasy 2017). It sports some familiar faces, some new faces, and plenty of opportunity for characters to roleplay their way to crazy greatness - in fact, the adventure is deeply rooted in another piece of pop culture that should become apparent as the adventure unfolds!

This adventure premiered at Links Con in Okemos, Michigan in June of 2017, and shares NPCs with CCC-LINKS-02 The Secrets We Keep (tier 3).

At 'Copper Metal' status, a Fantasy Grounds mod file will be added free of charge. At 'Silver Metal' status, the full tavern map will be added, free of charge (still subject to license agreement). Other incentives to be determined.

UPDATES:

  • 2017.08.23 - Copper Metal achieved! This adventure has been submitted for mod file creation.
  • 2017.09.20 - Silver Metal achieved (well, a couple weeks ago)! Fantasy Grounds mod file and Tavern Map (with commercial license) have been added to this download.

I have other DM's Guild offerings, as well:

This is a fun mod, but it does have some problems, unless the DM is thoroughly prepared. Two times through, and I'm still thinking how I'd need things to be different if I run it a 3rd time.

On page 20, buried in a block of text it mentions the culprit is using mind blank and Nystul's magical aura to avoid detection, but this might be overlooked. (Michael S. in the reviews thought Divine Sense would work.)
One group was asking if they could arrest everyone, as it looked like a conspiracy involving many people. I had to create a reason why they could only accuse one person.
And it is never explained why the death of the zombie is different for the last fight compared to the earlier ones.
In the last fight, if the players hesitate, an NPC will be beaten to death. Since this NPC had necessary testimony for the storyline (and had to be alive for the ending), it would be a headache for the DM if this actually happened.

Fun module, but it would benefit from a little more GM guidance about what exactly is going on, as well as an explanation of how the players are able to solve the mystery. After reading through it several times, I think I have it figured out (not sure if it's appropriate to post spoilers here), but it would have been a lot easier if the materials had spelled it out.

Needs to have "Virtual Tabletop" tag added for those of us looking for FG modules.

This is my favorite Convention module. I cut my teeth on Pool of Radiance and Phlan back in the day, and even though Season 1's modules were kinda rough, I loved running adventures in that city again. This module lets you go back to Phlan after the events of Season 1 and look into the city's legacy as it calls for your aid once more.

This is a fun module to throw at a spellcasting heavy party, the first combat encounter mucks up most answers to handling a group of mobs that are on the upper end of T2 strength. It definitely has a campy, "Scooby-Doo" vibe to it with the investigation and all different wacky and potentially equally guilty suspects as far as the players know. The constant harassment by the persistent enemy encounter encourages characters to find an answer quickly. Be clear on what the regent is asking of the characters as there can be some confusion and lead to incorrect incrimination at the end of the module! Would definitely run again, especially with a group that enjoys campy roleplaying! 4.5/5

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
