Temple of the Opal Goddess

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

A noble scion and his retinue from Baldur’s Gate left on an adventure amid much fanfare. That was two weeks ago. Rumours in the taverns suggest only a single soldier returned, bearing grievous wounds and a ransom demand.

Is this a simple case of misadventure, or are darker conspiracies afoot? Can you locate and rescue the nobleman, or will you fall victim to the malevolent powers stirring deep within the Temple of the Opal Goddess?

Set along the Sword Coast in the Forgotten Realms, this adventure is for 4-6 characters of levels 5-8.

Art by Dean Spencer, and cartography by Chris Bissette and Derek Ruiz

I know this module has been out for quite a while, but hopefully someone noticed. I recently purchased this for a one-shot, and I can't seem to find where the stairs in the lower area (Lower Temple 1) connect with the upper area. I'm not sure where players are supposed to find the stairways down to explore the rest of the temple.

Hi Derek. Despite its age I'll always answer questions on my products. The maps don't show it clearly, but the stairs down lead from area 23 up the top level (behind the portcullis) down to area 24 in the 'mid' level. From there, reaching the very lowest level must be achieved via the shaft in area 25, the elevator in area 27 (or rappelling off the edge), or descending the chain in area 29. If the PCs get trapped down there (via jumping with 'featherfall' for example, you can have them make a deal with Lashpera at the end (who can transport them up) or you'll have to contrive a way out through the large stone caverns.

Hope this helps, and if you like the adventure, the sequel can be found here - https://www.dmsguild.com/product/302106/The-Price-of-a-Soul. There's also at least two more planned in the series but there's no specific release date on these at the moment.

The recommend player and level range is fairly wide. What level do you recommend for 4 players who are relatively new to D&D? Can't wait to run this!

Hi Adam.

Firstly, thanks for buying the module!

Level recommendations are always tricky because party compositions vary so wildly. Combat oriented parties with optimised characters may romp through, while stealth or charisma based parties may use their skills to avoid combat altogether. For a party of four inexperienced players I'd suggest you start them at the upper end of the level recommendations (7th-8th) and limit the coordinated tactics of the Orcs (or introduce the Troll as a potential ally early). Back to back combats on the lower level may tax party resources heavilly.

I love getting feedback on play experiances. Feel free to hit me up on twitter @pyromaniacpress with your thoughts after the game.

Finally, I'm currently writing the sequel adventure, so stay tuned for that!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
