Greatly enjoying the material in here. Though I spotted a minor issue with Werefoxes, it mentions in their XXX attack that it is restricted to Rat or Hybrid form.

Hi, Marc. Staggeringly great work on all of the Oriental Adventure material. Bought it all!

I am hoping to run a campaign using DND Beyond and I wonder how you feel about my posting your creatures as homebrew, assuming you are properly credited of course with a link to this page.

Hi Marc,

I’m writing because I ordered a printed version and the tab says it shipped on April 26 but I have yet to receive the printed copy. Is there any way I could get a tracking number or update on the order? Sorry if the question should be a PM is my first purchase and I’m a bit lost with the interface.

Hi Anibal,

Thank you for your purchase, I hope you'll find the book to your liking!
Now, if you go to "Account" and look under "My Orders" you should be able to find the order and get a tracking number.

Thanks for the guide it did shed some light into how to navigate the interface. When I get to the order I only get the number from DM’s Guild and the history of when it was sent to to print and that it shipped by a letter mail. I can’t seem to find a USPS Tracking number anywhere. Sorry for the inconvenience on this matter.

Hey! I'm seeing the Print on demand option for this book doesn't seem to be available anymore. Is there any way I can get a printed copy of the book?

Hi Christopher,

It was off for about half a day due to what I think was a system update for OBS.

Minor quibble you list the Jiki-Ketsu-Gaki A’s the smartest of these spirits and very chatty but they have an INT of 3 lowest of all the gaki :)
Customer avatar
Marc A May 14, 2019 8:09 am UTC
Hi Michael,

Nice catch.
No idea how that happened. It should have an Int of 10 (+0).

I purchased this a while back and have already used several monsters such as the Ghoulem, The Ghast Lord and others to great effect. I was wondering though, will there ever be a stat block for the ruler of Jigoku Saisho, the First Oni?
Customer avatar
Marc A May 14, 2019 8:14 am UTC
Hi Jason,

I'm happy to hear you're making good use of the monsters!

As for Saisho, it depends if I ever get around to making an Epic expansion to this series.
There are just so many projects to work on, I can't make any promises for now.
I hope the other Oni Lords can provide for enough of a challenge for now.

Oh man. I totally understand. Fyi, I sent out Akuma and his spawn against my players as part of their trials and they loved it. The range of his tongues completely threw them for a loop.

Hi, Awesome bestiary, love the concepts in it, I have one problem though, cant find the special spell "conjure major elemental vortex" from the Maho-Tsukai cultists, anyone knows where to find it?
Customer avatar
Marc A May 14, 2019 8:16 am UTC
Hi Henrik,

Thank you for your kind words!

The spell in question should read "conjure greater elemental vortex."
You'll find it in a sidebar next to the elemental vortices.

Hello, I don't know if this matters or not but after purchasing the hard cover book I found that the after it could not stay standing up on my bookshelf getting a closer look that the binding of the book to a bit off, or maybe it's the cover but the book is crooked.
I don't know if this counts as a damaged book but I thought I should type this out anyway.

Hi there,

You should contact OneBookShelf if your book is damaged.

Hi Marc,

I have purchased the PDF and the hard cover.

Will you ever have Monsters of the Orient and Heroes of the Orient also available on Fantasy Grounds.

By the way. Excellent products.

Hi Clive,

Thank you for the kind words!

As for FG, it isn't something I can do myself.
I will need to work with somebody who does conversions, and it will very much depend on finding a deal that makes sense.

This is kinda late, but I too would absolutely **Love** to have this on Fantasy Grounds, would be an instant buy. If you haven't found the right person to try and make a deal with to get your PDF converted to a module I'd highly suggest contacting Rob Twohy on Twitter or the Fantasy Grounds forums as he is a very talented person when it comes to converting things into modules for Fantasy Grounds.

I hope you can find a deal that works for the both of you.

Hello, I am unable to find Genbu's stat block, I saw the entry about it alongside the Kirin, but there are no stat block, is this intended?
I am using the hardcover paperback version.
Thank you.

Marc A September 28, 2018 4:00 am UTC
Hi Kyle,

First of all, thank you for your purchase. I hope you are happy with it.

Genbu is mentioned there because he is one of the Shijin. He doesn't have a statblock though as he is much too large.
Fighting a continent isn't really feasible. Use him as a storytelling device instead.
Maybe a group of maho-tsukai have buried deep into the earth, planning to crack Genbu's shell and siphon his blood for some horrible ritual?

I saw that you had mentioned a Version 3 in the comment section, Is this version the 3rd, or is that still in the works?
Customer avatar
Marc A September 25, 2018 7:38 am UTC
Hi Jay,

The discussion about version 3 was for Heroes of the Orient, not Monsters of the Orient :)

I’m incredibly excited to finally own a hard copy of this! As a note, I just noticed in my pdf that the Ikiryo is marked as CR 1, But is worth 1,800xp (CR 5 worth). Is this a misprint? Is the creature meant to be CR 5?
Customer avatar
Marc A August 02, 2018 6:51 pm UTC
Hi Kaine,

I'm so happy to hear you like the print-on-demand option!

Also, nice catch! Thank you.
It should indeed be CR 5.
Its low AC and low damage output might make it look as a CR 1 at first glance. That's probably why I didn't spot the mistake either.
Its flying speed, immunities, incorporeal movement, and ability to frighten is what pushes it that high. Played right, it can be an absolute menace.

Very excited about getting a hardcover copy of this, I've been patiently waiting for this chance! Dare I hope to see a Print-on-Demand option for Heroes of the Orient before the end of this year?
Customer avatar
Marc A July 25, 2018 10:00 pm UTC
Hi Maxi,

I hope you'll find the printed book to your liking!

As for HotO, I do plan on making it PoD as well.
It's a big change to make it work for printing though.
In order for it to make sense, I'm thinking it will be part of v. 3.0 which should add some new content and expand on some of the existing stuff.
I've got a few things in mind, but I can't promise it'll be before the end of the year. I just have so many projects in the pipeline that all need attention.

For now, my focus is on Ulraunt's Guide which expands on my Epic series.
After that, I'll focus on finishing touches for a HotO adventure and then back to HotO.
That's the plan for now at least.
Customer avatar
Ryan M August 15, 2018 1:15 pm UTC
At the risk of sounding presumptuous, might I suggest, post-Ulraunt, a focus on v3.0 of HotO and then the adventure? Would not more options from the "core" HotO available for the adventure make more sense? Preferable even?

Ultimately it's your work to do in whatever order you please. Regardless of whatever order it happens in though, you'll have a customer in me. :)

Hey Marc love your work, I've bought it all! I was wondering if you plan on making any more Orient books, like some adventures or a campaign specifically. Thanks!
Customer avatar
Marc A July 25, 2018 9:55 pm UTC
Hi Kyle,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so happy you like my material :)

There'll be an adventure for HotO/MotO for sure!
It's in the works but I can't say for certain when it will be ready.

I got to see a friends copy of the book and overall I like it. A lot of the creatures are misnamed (which may be due to 2e & 3.5e's Oriental Adventure Books). Such as Kirin the Oriental version of the Unicorn being called The White Tiger which should be Byakko, and Genbu being the turtle on which the "orients are built on" rather than one of the 4 (or 5 if your going with the non Buddhist mythos) Holy Beasts. I'm a stickler for cultural accuracy and relevance which most people aren't. Either way its a simple in game fix and looks like a solid addition to a Far East Campaign.

Hi A.J.,

Thank you very much for your kind words.
In this fantasy setting, nothing is intended to represent the real world. There's a lot of inspiration that comes from various Asian cultures but I've taken plenty of creative liberties with it. That is completely on purpose.
If you look at several of the Forgotten Realms deities, they are also inspired by gods from various cultures in the real world without being exact copies of them. That's sort of what I went for here.
That said, you could easily change things to be more like the real world if you wanted to.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
