Baelin's Revised Monk

This product revises the Core Monk class and its options to make for more fluid and dynamic gameplay. Here's what you get:

  • Core Monk: Touch-up of the core monk’s pinnacle abilities to make them more suitable for endgame play.
  • Iron Body (Variant Rule): An alternative that allows for Strength-based monks.
  • Way of the Open Hand: A significant revision of the abilities of the Way of the Open Hand to properly depict the tradition as one who walks the fine line between discord and harmony.
  • Way of Shadows: A complete overhaul of the Way of Shadow, giving it a thematically consistent progression and breadth of abilities more fitting for the way of the 'ninja'.
  • Disciple of the Primordial Dragons: A complete reimagining of the Way of the Four Elements as a martial artist who can fling flames and wield whips of water, armor himself in stone or fly about on jets of air.
  • In-Depth Review & Rationale: An in-depth look at the rationale and design philosophy that went into the creation process.

Author’s Note:  I've been in love with D&D for almost 2 decades but I reserve a particular appreciation for 5E. My priority is to imbue each class with its own distinct identity and playstyle, emphasizing the culture behind the class and its impact on the unfolding story. I've put a lot of thought and love into my creations and I hope they will enrich your campaign as much as they have mine.

Two questions regarding Shifting Tides under the Discipline of Water: 1) is it a single attack roll made against up to two targets or different attack rolls for each, and 2) does the unarmed attack deal damage or does it just reduce the target's speed?

Also, to benefit from Shifting Tides or any of the other similar abilities, do you have to be in the stance of the discipline associated with it?

Thank you for your purchase. I apologise for the late responses as I've been away for awhile.

1) As intended, each target requires its own attack roll. The concept is that the ability is a crowd control effect. The damage output is comparable to Flurry of Blows but only against separate targets so it can't be used to focus fire on a single creature.
2) If successful, the attack damages the target and reduces the speed by 10 feet (you can imagine the effect being akin to the Ray of Frost cantrip).

Each Discipline unlocks two abilities, one active and one passive.

The first ability for each discipline is a stance. You must be in the stance to gain the benefit. (From a cinematic perspective, the effect of a stance is akin to to readying a weapon for combat (ie Water Whip, Fire Knives, Stone Gauntlets, etc) so you can usually only have one out at a time until you gain the Twin Dragon Stance feature.

The second ability is a passive effect that enhances the associated Ki Power (Step of the Wind, Flurry of Blows, Patient Defense). As intended, you do not need to be in the stance to gain the benefit but it only triggers when you use the Ki Power. For example, assuming your character has mastered both the Disciplines of Air and Water, even if you're in the Tail of the Water Dragon stance, you can still use Step of Unfettered Wind to fly.

It should also be noted that each ability only triggers once per turn, so even though both Step of Unfettered Wind (Air) and Shifting Tides...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
