Wizard Tradition: The Nekomancer

ADD TO WISHLIST >

If you like cats... I mean really like cats, like you own cats, you play with cats, you post pictures of your cats and squee at the sight of kittens playing in boxes, then maybe you like cats enough for this Wizard tradition that lets you turn your cat familiar into a tiny butler, summon cats and cat-like creatures to fight on your behalf, become a deadly cat and ultimately summon the keeper of back alleys, the King of Cats and his court.

I like the concept with this class and how strong the theme is however I find a that some of the abilities are received to late to be effective. Compared to other wizard archetypes, you don't get anything other than access to utility spells for the first 6 levels. I would consider moving conjure animals to level 6 from level 10 seeing as how it is accessible to other casters at level 5 while maintaining the level 10 feature of making your cats stronger.

Your level 13 ability (Should be 14 like other wizards) is trying to make big use of conjure animals which is a level 3 spell. I'm assuming it maintains the casting at higher levels provides more beasts as per the normal spell but I feel it should include a formula specific to this archetype.

Can't edit above post. I see the cats summoned by conjure animals don't get stronger. Since your limiting yourself to only summoning cats and how it is the premise of the class, I feel they should receive some bonus to their rolls based off of proficiency or half proficiency. The same for the King especially being the capstone ability. He does have increased AC but hit HP leaves a lot to be desired. 26 is easily in one shot potential. 15-20 more would probably be enough.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

The oversight regarding level of abilities gained will be corrected forthwith! Let me take a minute to address some of the other issues you raise:

Wizards are a very potent class on their own. The theme of the class is "cats" and through this theme these wizards get access to druid spells normally unavailable to wizards at all. While the cats theme is easily maintained since all of those spells are "always prepared" their full versatility can be brought to bear by choosing to prepare them normally.

Delaying the Conjure Animals spell to 10 was done primarily to avoid trampling the toes of the Conjuration Wizard whose specialty is supposedly summoning things. Note closely the text of the feature which expands the utility of Conjure Animals to include "Catlike Monstrosities." Review the Monster Manual and you'll see a few truly superior options with Gryphons and Manticores at the low end. That said, CR limits...See more

After further play as a Druid/Bard/Most kinds of Wizard, I've updated this class as follows.

Conjure Animals moves to 6th level. Animal Friendship moves to 2nd level. Sorry Conjurer, make do with your demons.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
