ADD TO WISHLIST >

ONE SHOT or ONE Session

The small quaint village of Keasling is a farming town two weeks away from their first Harvest festival in 180 years. The adventure begins with the party arriving and discovering through experience and reports that things in Keasling are not quite right. Players must make connections, defeat horrific encounters and learn the reasons for these evil happenings. They will learn about Keasling’s secret and must stop the curse prior to the Harvest festival else be transported into the shadow world with the entire town. The story will direct the players to the final battle grounds confronting them with Trakdor the Minotaur vampire and his minions at the Town hall stairs on the last night of the festival.

If used as part of a larger game what changes would you recommend making to better suit PCs of higher levels? Also does this start at level 1 or something higher?

Edward, this is intended as a one-shot with a very small party of 8th level characters or an average sized party of 5th level characters. Our initial intention was to create a module with built in “creepy” factor to allow DMs to run something, for their campaign, at those critical transition levels between low and high. If we were running it at a higher level we would re-spec. the big bad to be more dangerous (like Strahd) and up the current monsters to higher level CR monsters in the same undead creepy category. However we are big fans of re-spec.ing regular monster to keep their flavor but make them a higher CR much like Wizards did in Volo’s Guide with the goblinoids. Thank you for your question and please leave a review after you run Harvest. Cheers -Pat

*Warning, Potential Spoilers* The target range of starting characters is between 5 and 8 - depending on party numbers. A CR 15 Vampire Warrior is probably a bit tough for level 1 characters. For a larger game, one option would be if the characters stopped overnight at Keasling while traveling from one major plot location to the next. To make it more difficult for higher level parties, I'd recommend swapping out some of the support (Occurrence) monsters for similar, but more challenging types. Zombies into Wights, for example. For the final showdown, you might decide the Demon wants to ensure the Vampire Warrior is successful and sends some of his more powerful minion demons along beefing up that final encounter. Also, you could change the environment so the two worlds are blending together a bit more and perhaps some of the party's strengths (healing, divine magic, vision) don't function as well as they normally do.

Hi Edward, for a party of three levels 5-8 should be challenging, but not overwhelming.

For a Bastard Sword, I'd recommend 35 gp, 1d8 slashing, heavy, versatile (1d12).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
