DDAL07-01 A City on the Edge (5e)

Often called the “Gateway to Chult”, the exotic city of Port Nyanzaru is built upon a landscape both mystifying and marvelous.

However, the city’s vibrant beauty is overshadowed by a mysterious scourge that plagues all within the land. Can the divergent forces within the city discover the truth before all are overcome by this growing threat?

Five Four-Hour Mini-Adventures for 1st-4th Level Characters

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

I love the velociraptor egg story award. Wish it would allow eternal familiar option for those that cast find familiar maybe at increased downtime cost for researching how to prepare the egg

As a note, if you want to find out what happens to one of the NPCs from this scenario, check out Heart of the Wild, by Rich Lescouflair

4/5 A nice introduction to the factions in Chult, but a bit disjointed when it comes to enemy power levels. we ran it in order and the first wizard boss is more powerful than the later wizard boss. the dinosaur racing could use an overhaul.

What is wrong with the dinosaur racing?

Overall a decent introduction to Chult. Ytepka Society is a cute touch. As it's the first missions of the season they are linear but it's ok as a stage set piece.

Very linear as mentioned. Personally like the later parts (dinosaur racing requires prep, but isn't hard to run), but the earlier missions are bare bones.

Not a good replay value, but the dinosaur races are a lot of fun. The zombies go down pretty fast, but overall its okay.

I can't review, because I used the copy of the DM who recruited me. However...

Good, with a few exceptions. Firstly, the Dinosaur race is an unintuitive hassle to run online, where no one but the DM can see the grid. Secondly, the zombies, with their low AC and ability to just shrug off killing blows, tend to go down to 1 HP quickly, but refuse to stay down. Similarly, with their weak attacks, they don't pose a real threat to the party. It turns the fight into a boring slog at the end, where the players are just swinging away at these zombies who refuse to go down, but who also aren't strong enough to fight back.

Of course, my zombies could have just rolled their saves really well.

The net roleplay in these is so low because each has an intro and wrap-up. Poor XP reward, no magic item. Really linear, tiny stories not thick enough to sink your teeth into. 1/5

If you can only run one of the adventures, make it "Grand Prize of the Oracle." Dinosaur racing, and a gladatorial fight in a live cage that attacks you. Also, Pock-marked Po is always a fun NPC to run.

I got my copy from the store - so I can't leave a review... but.
I think it's a pretty quick introduction to Port Nyanzaru. It introduces a lot of characters that are recurring across the Season 7 arcs, so that was intriguing. The dinosaur race was a lot of fun. From my experience, it doesn't quite fit within an hour. 4/5

For some reason, I can't leave a review.
I have run this through several times.
My players seemed to enjoy it, but I was bored to tears as DM.
Very linear. fairly trite mini stories.
Took 6 hours to run all the way through, (2-3 sessions), since the players switched out between sessions, they never got the whole story. just a bunch of disjointed mini stories.
After all that, the adventure gets about half the XP of a normal module.
2/5

A good bunch of adventures that link well, however there could have been more clarity on why certain events happened

One of my players provided me with the adventure to run it for them.
I'd give it a 3/5.

- The first mission is probably the best self-contained one of the bunch. I liked how the secret passage system reappeared later in the adventure as well and the story award is great for fluff. Would like to see more awards like this in the future.
- Second mission felt more like a side quest. Dinosaur race was fun but kinda dragged on for too long because no one in my party was great at Animal Handling (also some bad luck with obstacle saves). Ran into the typical tabletop race issue of just rolling a bunch of dice in quick succession to handle it. Arena fight seemed a bit too easy on average, especially Slicer could use a slight buff (he went down in 2 attacks before he even got his turn, pretty much ending the fight immediately).
- Third mission was fine. Only issue I had was not really getting why the grungs were doing the ritual thing. Didn't really seem to be connected with the overall plot...See more

Funny and perfect to introduce people in the AL system and in the city of port nyazaru. The only problem that i found is the time: it's impossible to run each adventures in only one hour.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
