Lost Mine of Phandelver Battle Maps

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Featured here are two maps made to supplement encounter stories in the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition Module, Lost Mine of Phandelver. Both encounters, the goblin ambush at the start of the adventure and the confrontation with the Redbrands later on, are detailed further in the module, but contain no accompanying battle maps. These high resolution maps come in multiple variations including with or without grids for tabletop or digital play, print resolution pdfs, alternative versions using fog of war or nighttime palettes, black and white line versions, and grayscale. Additionally, the goblin ambush map comes with digital tokens of the ox cart and dead horses so that the map itself can be used as a default roadside encounter if desired.

Edit (7/23/20): I have remastered the Goblin Ambush map somewhat, mostly focusing on improving the dead horse tokens (update preview image). Old versions are still available with purchase.

Looking to supplement more from the Lost Mine of Phandelver? Check out our other maps for two side quests in the adventure--the orc camp at Wyvern Tor and the red wizard at Old Owl Well.

Does this include a map for Cragmaw Hideout/Cave? And are these printable on 8.5x11 paper?

Hi Sean! This pack (and the others I've made for LMoP like it) currently only cover maps for locations/encounters detailed within the adventure that are not already mapped. If you need a map for the hideout, I'd recommend heading to Mike Schley's website (the original cartographer for the adventure) where you can purchase high res copies of the map.

To answer your 2nd question, yes! The printable PDFs are made specifically with home printing in mind. Printing for a 1 inch grid size should have the map(s) printing nicely over exactly 4 US letter sized papers.

Just purchased the LMOP Battle Maps and the new Goblin Ambush was not recognized by Adobe. Got a message that said it was damaged and unable to be opened by Adobe. I downloaded the newest version of Adobe and got the same message. Any ideas of what might be going on? Thanks!

Not really sure why that would be happening Indred! The files are just JPEGs--are you able to preview them through other means besides Adobe Acrobat? If you'd like, please message me at info@venatusmaps.com and I can try and send you alternate file types to try.

Still getting an error message. Redownloaded it from the purchase page. Message Adobe is giving me says: "Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open 'Goblin Ambush.jpg' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

bought these today, but I can't use the .jpg files in Roll20. Is there an issue with these files not working properly as all other .jpg files work fine. Tried converting them to.png and still not working. Is this an issue with these files?

I just purchased both packs of your Phandalin maps and neither are working properly. The Redbrand Ambush isn't there, the Wyvner Tor and Old Owl Well says they are possibly corrupted and won't unpack. The Goblin Ambush is the only one that worked properly.

Hi Ken! Sorry about that--not really a frequently occurring issue or I wouldn't have people recommending the product and I haven't changed the files recently so I'm not quite sure what the problem would be. I'd recommend reaching out to DMsGuild and/or even try accessing the site from a different internet browser and see if that solves the issue? If you keep running into issues please respond with your email address and I'll help work something out for you.

I can't seem to print this out properly. It either prints too small or cuts off huge chunks. Any tips?

Nice starter adventure, balanced for RP and combat. Our group spent a lot of time in Phandolin and found it quite flavourful. Some of the cave maps are a bit cramped for formations when using the grid, this made certain combats a little lengthier.
Beware of the life drain on the Wraith in one of the final sections during Season 7 Death Curse, being irreversible can really hamper the character or upset the player.

The files are set to 8.5x11 300dpi, but have a 1/2 in grid at that size as it's recommended you print it off at 2x its normal size (4 8.5x11 pieces) for the 1 in grid for tabletop play.

Is there a plan to expand the battle map? To see the rest of the town on a grid?

May be useful to put a preview even if its tiny images with a big sample slapped across it just to get an idea of what is included visually.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
