{OAP} The Samurai Class

Outlandish Adventure Productions presents:

The Samurai, a martial class of stances and spiritual balance! Samurai have a stance for every situation, and enhance these stances with spiritual power to benefit their allies and slay their foes. Their spiritual power comes in two flavors: positive, the energy of harmony and life, and negative, the energy of violence and death. Samurai choose the balance of these energies within themselves, and use these spiritual powers for many dynamic effects. But what is a samurai without his Bushido Code? Your choice of code determines how you will evolve your spiritual practices.

Bushido Codes

Code of Loyalty. You dedicate yourself to the service of a ruler or country, becoming a balance of positive and negative so you can be equal parts mediator and protector. Through this practice, you gain leadership skills that allow you to become a frontline tactician.

Code of the Ki-rin. You seek out a legendary ki-rin master, learning from its ways with fire, light, and the sky. You learn to use your balance points to cast spiritual disciplines, many of which mimic the effects of spells.

Code of the Oni. You choose to become the spiritual prison for a demon who threatened your people. Whether it was to act as a guardian or to try to gain that demon's power to serve your own agenda, you can tap into the demon's magic and rage.

Code of the Ronin. You decide to serve no master but yourself, eschewing greater spiritual strength for greater physical might.

Code of the Serpent. You pledge your service to a draconic master to learn its ways of elemental destruction. You delve deep into the arts of negative energies, and eventually learn to take on draconic properties.

Code of Virtue. You become a guardian and healer for all peoples, judging individuals on their own character instead of their nationality. You delve into the art of positive energies, learning to use them for feats of extraordinary healing and tranquility.

We hope you enjoy the Samurai as much as we and our players do! We'd love to hear your feedback, so please send us any questions or comments you have. Also, if you perceive any balance issues, please let us know and we will address them as quickly as we can.

Update History

5/17/2017 v1.1 - Moved the second use of Junbi per day from 14th level to 17th level to reduce the 14th-level power spike and make 17th level feel more impactful, and made a number of small quality of life wording changes.

5/9/2017 v1.0 - Original Samurai Class uploaded.

Thank you for your purchase! One has full art and formatting, and the other is a black-and-white printer friendly version without any art.

This is fantastic, truly. Playing with it in a game, but I'm a little stuck with Junbi. If I have an odd maximum of balance points, do I round up or down?

Hi, Thony! It's so good to hear that you're enjoying the experience!

As with every instance of "half" in 5e unless otherwise specified, you round down for Junbi.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
