5e Race option - Cambion

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Ever wanted to play as a beguiling Succubus, or charming Incubus? Wait no longer! As a Cambion you are able suck the emotions dry of those around you. Your natural charisma and charm allow you to beguile your way into anyones favour.

The Cambion is a Charisma based humanoid race. It sustains itself on the feelings of friend and foe alike. The Cambion inherits the demonic charm of its parents and can, with a simple touch, make even the most stubborn of people friendly.

It has been both thematically and mechanically balanced to allow all the flavour and unique abilities of the Succubus/Incubus without making the class overpowered in any sense.

Please note: This race works exceptionally well with the new CHA based feats released in UA - 04/17/2017.

UPDATE:

Good news everybody, shortly after I put new artwork up, I've made a whole myriad of changes that rework the race into something much more in line with other D&D races. Changelog is in the discussion below.

Most of this is good, but I have a few questions/critiques:

1) The Demonborn text mentions going to the Nine Hells changes their form to basically be a Tiefling with wings, but do they not gain a fly speed or are they purely cosmetic? Maybe a glide speed instead? Also, wording might need to be updated as "demon" specifically refers to fiends from the Abyss rather than the Nine Hells which are called "devils", and Succubi/Incubi exist in all of the Lower Planes, not just the Nine Hells or the Abyss, making them just fiends rather than specifically devils or demons.

2) Siphon Emotion needs to be rewritten. I get what it is, it's an anytime use short rest heal that can damage an enemy, but it's funky here:

First of all, that box isn't where it should go, it's just making it kind of confusing putting it there, making it look like it's supposed to supplement something mentioned in one of the traits, but it's not mentioned anywhere else.

Well thought out queries, apologies for the delayed response:

1) Flight is kept vague intentionally, allowing the DM the power to decide if the race should have flight or not. In my games, DM'ing, I outright banned races with flight due to the power of 3 directional movement.
I've always been iffy about the whole DnD lore surrounding demons / devils, from what I can see in previous lore Cambions have a history associated with the 9 hells, in fact 5e MM p36 specifically mentions them being raised there.

2) From what I can see in the PHB (p192 for example) that it just needs to be loosely related to the content around it. Given the content around it is the rest of the race, I don't think it's a huge deal to have in there.
Aesthetically, breaking it up from the rest of the abilities is what I was going for, because it's so unique. All other skills the Cambion has don't reference a starting level - visual aesthetics aside, it would be inconsistent to add it.

It requires...See more

Any chance you could adapt this to FG (Fantasy Grounds)?

I've actually just started a game in FG recently, and definitely could do it.
I think at the moment, the priority for me is a new race, this one has been around for a while and I'm keen to do something fresh.

Chris' review was very constructive and I've decided to make a few changes.
Subsequently my first ever product update!

Changelog:
- new artwork! yay (though this was prior to Chris' review!)
- Removed "Glamour" trait (advantage on all CHA rolls v. humanoids). It was clunky and proved to be too much of an advantage (ha ha) in game.
- Reworked "Siphon Emotion" trait.
- Added text under "Siphon Emotion" to clarify that it's an ability.
- Nerfed "Seductive Caress" - get it at level 3, and it breaks on any damage (as opposed to just giving them another chance to break it).
- Added "Many Faces" trait to replace Glamour.
- Minor tweaks to flavor text.

All in all the balances were intended to reign in some of the more powerful aspects of the race. It's now much more in line with what other DnD races get, with the noted exception that the Cambion gets 2 active traits - as opposed to every other race...See more

Agreed. This is product cover is unnecessarily sexualized and veers away from Wizards stated design intent not to have hyper-sexual characters or monsters of either gender.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
