Lost Mine of Phandelver Side Maps

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Featured here are two maps made to supplement side stories in the Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition Module, Lost Mine of Phandelver. Both stories, the Red Wizard at Old Owl Well and the Orc Camp at Wyvern Tor, are detailed further in the module, but contain no accompanying maps. These high resolution maps come in multiple variations for use with or without grid or labels and multiple resolutions for Virtual Tabletop play or for printing at full 1in grid scale.

Looking to supplement more from the Lost Mine of Phandelver? Check out our other maps for two encounter battle maps--the goblin ambush and the redbrand confrontation.

If you find that this product improved your gaming experience please feel free to check out more of my maps on our website, venatusmaps.com

Edit (03/10/18): I have recently revisited the Old Owl Well map, remaking it entirely from scratch. Now it is not only far higher in quality and detail, but I have also adjusted the size of the tower, well, and tent. You can click here for a side-by-side comparison between the old and new versions (at lower resolution).

Have always been fine printing JPEGs myself, but went ahead and made a scaled PDF file as well for both maps! Should be visible/available with the product page now in your library.

Bought these today and can't get them to print properly. Instructions say they are PDF files, yet they come as jng. I have tried to convert them to PDF, but they seem stuck at 11x17. Adobe reader does not convert jng to PDF. XXX! Tired of wasting paper and ink. Want a refund.

Full res should be 150pps while some of the VTT variants are half that.

Great maps, thank you very much. Would you consider doing a night variant for Old Owl Well the way you did Wyvern Tor?

You've made huge advancements since you first started. The old version still has a cool watercolor charm to it. You should totally still be proud of it.

I can not get the full maps to print with at the 1" scale. All that prints with the PDF is the upper left corner of the map. That's listed as page 1 of 1. Can you give explicit instructions on how to print your maps as tactical maps and get the whole thing? I've purchased all of your Phandelver maps with the hopes of using them with miniatures, and am disappointed I can't get the whole map to print. HELP!!

Hi William! Sorry to hear you're having issues with printing! While it's somewhat difficult for me to help with your specific printer remotely, I did put out a printing guide in the past that may be of some help here: https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/5399d1_1027ec27767b456296c0eeb5a8cf090b.pdf

Thanks I'll give this a shot. I know right now the file isn't opening in Adobe, it's opening in Microsoft edge like a web page, that's is probably the issue. Thanks for the help.

The maps look fantastic, is there a recommended way to print these out to fully ultilize the 1 inch grid?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Joshua! I believe previously a printable PDF may have came with the Old Owl Well map, but there hadn't been one for Wyvern Tor. I just updated the files for the product into two separate .zip files, both of which now contain a printable PDF of either map with it already scaled up to a 1inch grid scale and with appropriate coloring settings for printing. Enjoy!

Wyvern Tor lacks a boulder twenty yards outside the cave for an orc to hunker down by. There's a boulder ten yards *inside* the cave, but that's not the same thing.

That's not the cave, it's the ravine the cave sits in. Notice how the walls are different from the actual cave's walls?

Oh, geez. I see now. I was using the map wrong! I thought that was sort of an entryway into the cave.

The Old Owl Well map doesn't match the description very well. For one, you can't fit twelve zombie tokens in the watchtower without them sitting on the walls. For another, a character coming up the road into the ruined keep can see straight into the watchtower, which contradicts the text saying the zombies "can't be seen from outside." Thirdly, the text says that you can see not only the watchtower itself, but into the courtyard to see the tent. But (if you presume that the walls are high enough to block sight, which it certainly looks like they are), you can't see into the courtyard until you get quite close to the ruins, if you're following the road.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
