Where is the Player's Pack? DMsGuild says it doesn't exist! Its one of the reasons I'm looking at this, but I have most of the bundle from another vendor, and don't want to be forced into buying duplicates for the Player's Pack >.

I've played Curse of Strahd for roughly 8 months with my group, finished like 2 months ago. I've never DMed before. Would it be a wise choice to start my first experience as a DM on this bundle? I really enjoy the Raveloft setting, the locations, characters, etc. Read a couple of books also.

Ravenloft has a huge long history. See if you can find an in depth review of the original version of Ravenloft, just to see where it started. No sense buying that first version, it's a much more basic 'vampire in a castle' story. The 2nd Ed. AD&D version is where they did it right. That version went nuts. Everybody wanted to play it. Since that version, everyone has tried to maintain the lore through all of the newer versions. There is even at least one mistake on the original maps that is still on most new maps being made today. Don't worry, it's just a staircase moved 4 blocks to the left, nothing your players would notice. (..unless they're ACTULLY mapping out the castle.. which isn't a terrible idea.)
It wouldn't hurt to get a copy of THAT specific version, even if it's just the pdf of the main book. Pretty sure they sell that here on DMsGuild. There was a BUNCH of content published for the 2nd...See more Ed. AD&D version as well. Lots of unique story lines that you might want to go back to later and add in to your campaign (you'll have to adapt them to 5th Ed. or whatever ruleset you're using of course). I think the 3rd, 3.5 and 4th editions of the Castle Ravenloft adventure are carbon copies or the 5th Ed. one. You're going to want to pick up a copy of that. There are a few guides to Ravenloft and the dark realms, you should pick up at least one of those and read it at this point, because this is where it gets fun. The original 'Curse of Straud' was it's own campaign. THAT is where I would start a new group off at. Well.. ACTUALLY, you're supposed to start off a new group of characters in their home world, then 'the mists' or whatever whisk them all away to Strahds realm. There are lots of ways to transport them. They get lost in the mist, lost on a ship at sea. Some malevolent demi-god ships them off there. Slavers kidnap the young party and ship them off. Mysterious, oddly dressed villagers appear out of the mists and ask the characters to help their village..
So, after you get THAT pack, THEN you could get this pack and use it's content as a secondary storyline, or just use the quests as side quests. A lot of people complain that the level of content in this pack SUCKS compared to the original. Well.. not EVERY pack can be legendary, unfortunately. None the less, a DM who is intimately familiar with Ravenloft already COULD run this campaign, and ad-lib a ton of content to give it the original Ravenloft feel.
I would definitely NOT... NOT buy this as a stand alone product to try to run an effective scary and spooky Ravenloft campaign. This campaign was written by top drawer DMs, who travel the country to guild halls and throw down a map and run an entire campaign without hardly referencing a book. It's a valid part of the D&D Ravenloft lore, but many people find it seriously wanting for raw content.
So.. once you get that far, you MIGHT want to also look in to (popular) supplementary content written for 3rd, 3.5 and 4th Edition, which you MIGHT want to add to your campaign. There were a couple of very popular packs for those versions that people loved. ..not many, but a few. 5th Edition is still ramping up their Ravenloft content. A lot of stuff hasn't been converted yet, and there's still room for a LOT more.
BE AWARE: There are other realms besides Ravenloft that exist along side it. Don't just pick up every book that says 'Ravenloft', 'Curse of Strahd', 'Dark Realms' or 'Domains of Dread' on it and expect that it plugs in to Barovia (the land where Castle Ravenloft is located and Strahd is Lord). There are a handful of Lords that exist at the mercy of the Dark Powers, each is a Lord (or Lady) over their own separate domain. For this reason, I wouldn't go nuts with your credit card buying every piece of related content you see on sale. An example is that some of the content tries to add psionics to the realm. Personally, I don't think psionics has ANY business being in the Domains of Dread. Being able to read minds destroys the spooky creepy 'unknown factor' that is a mainstay of horror. I'm not saying that a good DM can't work around it.. I'm just saying that I don't want it there in the first place. So.. get at least to the point where you've read one or two guides to the realms before you go nuts picking up random content. ;)
Enjoy! Don't forget to set the mood for your players. Dim the lights, play some spooky ambient soundtracks.. maybe some creepy halloween snacks. Maybe hold your first gaming session somewhere 'uncomfortable' like an attic or dark basement. Horror like this LOVES ambience. :)

That's a different adventure. I've played through a majority of these and really enjoyed them. I'll be grabbing this bundle when I get the chance.

Yes it is, and if you're looking for a Ravenloft experience, then the AL adventures are the lesser choice. I played the majority of the season as well, and for the most part it wasn't too horrible. Later I found out that this was because I had GREAT DMs. I bought the first seven adventure to run for my home group, and all but one were just awful. After six adventures I moved them to the printed WOTC product, best DM choice I ever made. If folks want to play 14 adventures that have very little to do with Ravenloft, were written and edited poorly, and need a ton of prep work then it's your dollar. If you want something closer to classic Ravenloft, go for the printed WOTC book and ignore Season 4. Was a waste of money in comparison.
