Fantasy Grounds 5E Spell Effects Coding

This a module for the Fantasy Grounds VTT software.

This now includes implementation of the OPTIONAL Kent McCullogh Extensions and preplacement of tokens using the OPTIONAL DiabloBob's Critically Awesome Essentials.

These are OPTIONAL, and not using them will have no effect on the spell codings if you don't use them.

Fantasy Grounds 5E Coding Package

Do you play or DM Fantasy Grounds D&D 5E?

This package delivers all of the coding effects for spells and cantrips for the PC sheet Actions tab in drag and drop format! DMs viewing the combat tracker will always know the status on any spell, where the effects are applied, and who the caster was if it is concentration. No more stopping your game to code spells. Drag, drop, KEEP PLAYING!

Fantasy Grounds coding for spells done right.

Example:

Dragging the Shillelagh cantrip to the Actions tab on the PC sheet builds no effect.

This package will build effects as follows:

Cast: Melee attack + modifier

Dmg: 1d8 bludgeoning

Effect: Shillelagh; [SELF] (for 1 min)

With EACH spell that has or needs effects, titles are applied and concentration notes and times are provided.

Also for easier use for both players and DMs -

In the spell titles, there will usually be symbols.

This is the key for those symbols:

(60) - Range - this will be a range in feet 30, 60, 90, etc.

(S) - Self - sometimes listed with a corresponding range

(T) Touch

(C) Concentration

(B) Bonus Action

(R) Reaction

(RIT) Ritual

($) Component cost

This will be a great time saver for players and ESPECIALLY DMs!

Hey Rob, I was wondering if this module was updated with new spells from Tasha's Cauldron, and the latest errata released along with the book (ie. Booming Blade range change from 5ft to Self etc)?

Rob, What is the difference between your spell stuff and the spells already coded into the game apart from the description? When I try the spells out from the books doing the same things you do in the explanation video, the same thing seems to happen.

Rob, I just loaded the newest version and was dragging over and checking spells for my PCs and I did notice some magic saves without the "magic" checkbox checked. Should all spell saves have that box checked?

All SPELLS should be checked with magic yeah, but anything that's from the race, class, or feats are usually not. If you have more questions or want to report which ones need attention, please come to the Discord server. Link is in the credits.

Hey Rob,
When I download your products I'm getting different names, sometimes it's "XXXXXX-rob2e_5E_Items_Effects_Coding", sometimes "Fantasy_Grounds_5E_Effects_Coding", do you control what name is assigned the download? I'd like to delete a few of these because I'm never certain if FG is loading the current one.

Good question, DMs Guild adds that number and the underscores, and sometimes file names change, but it doesn't matter what the file name is, the name of the file has no effect on how it operates within FG. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE though, that if you have multiple copies of a file (differently named or not) FG WILL use the OLDEST one you have, so you do need to make sure you don't have duplicates.

Hey Rob, I just bought a bundle from Dmguild that included this mod. Like they Justin mentioned earlier, I don't see the Artificer spells list when using when using source in spells. Do I have to update and if so how do I acquire the updated file? Or would the most updated file come with the purchase, since it was done today. Do I have to own Eberron and not the Unearthed Aracna? Thanks, just acquired a huge library of your stuff and it made things sooo much easier.

Download the latest file. MAKE SURE NO OTHERS ARE STILL IN THAT FOLDER as FG will use the oldest version. If you have more problems, please come to our Discord for help.

I am a big fan of Rob's work. I have many of his products and they have never steered me wrong. I love Fantasy Grounds, but I find it hard and time consuming to code effects. Nothing can slow a game down more than trying to code an effect when the players want to cast a spell. Fortunately, now I do not have to because I have Rob's Spell Effect coding. Now during character creation or when characters level up, a simple drag and drop puts the spell effects coding right on the character's action tab. It makes it so easy.

Rob includes instructions. The module is organized alphabetically. He makes it very easy for us GM's. Probably because he is a GM himself. I can not stress how much you need this module. Spend the cash. It will be the #1 mod to make your life as a GM so much easier. I rate this 10 out of 10. 11 out of 10 if I could. Also, Rob makes it easy to contact him on discord to ask questions. Thanks Rob.

Hi Rob

Having a problem with Hail of Thorns and Hunters Mark with my Ranger. I've cast Hunter's mark (on my self) and targeted a creature. Shot my bow and all seems good. The xtra d6 is rolled with the normal damage. On the next round I cast Hail of Thorns. Again on my self. When I then throw damage on for the bow, I get hunters mark again, but the 1d10 for the HoT doesn't get added. If I then throw the 1d10 separately onto the creature, it then adds 1d6 for hunters mark again.

Am I doing something wrong, or is the coding not quite working as it should? I notice in the effect row, there is DMG 1d6 for HM, but nothing for HoT. There's a separate Dmg row for that spell.

Sorry if I'm not clear, as pretty new to all this FG stuff!!

Gabriel, these are designed for PCs. However, the "Conditions & Effects" module is what you're looking for. In that are things that CAN be applied to NPCs such as Bane, Bless, Rage, etc. there are 275+ effects in that.

Most don't come with codes. Fantasy Grounds parses coding, but is not always complete, or doesn't parse anything. This offers complete coding as well as aids to quickly manage play. For example, being able to see at a glance that spells are either a bonus action, reaction, what the range is, etc. without having to look it up. Most people find these (as well as the race traits, and class features) VERY, VERY useful.

Hi Rob, Are you planning on proofreading these spell effects? I've not gone through them all, but already I've found that Detect Magic isn't listed as a ritual. Also, is there supposed to be any distinction between spells that require a costly material component and spells that consume material components?

The $ was just supposed to signify a cost (any monetary cost), the rest is left up to the DM. For example in my games, I don't bother with components for the most part. I'm going to start making players fork over the dough though for the monied items.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
