"Another great piece of writing from one of the guilds leading writers!!!"

***NOTE - The preview shows several maps and is really for DM's eyes only.***

Into the Belly of the Beast is a swamp adventure for four to five characters of level 5 - 8 with an approximate play time of 6 to 8-hours.

Take the adventuring party on a journey through a nasty, smelly swamp as they follow an exotic map which (they hope) leads to a grand treasure.  Unknown hazards, NPCs, adventure, and creatures stand between them and the X that 'marks the spot' on the map.

This adventure includes:

  • Custom art
  • 8 hand-drawn maps (color and black & white included)
  • 3 new creatures
  • 1 new magic item
  • Includes a printer-friendly version of the adventure.

Into the Belly of the Beast runs smoothly as-is, but an additional 8 encounters are included.  These encounters can be used to lengthen the adventure, or they could be used separately and added to your own campaign.

Loving the module (among a few of yours). Is there any way to get the color version of the maps without the callouts?

This is a wonderful hidden gem! I ran it for my students and they had a blast! They all cringed at the toenail in the stew! What a great piece of flavor! This adventure finds a great balance of the pillars of adventuring. Well done!

I heard your interview on Crit Academy and you said that this is a title that hasn't sold as well as others, well, I was excited because I had already bought it because it was such a neat idea and extremely interesting.

I'm a huge fan. I also had to buy Dragons Breath Tavern because I couldn't wait to win it on the podcast. I needed to add it to my campaign.

I found the mostly sunken castle really interesting. It's a really unique setting, with some interesting environmental hazards.

One thing I plan on doing today when I run that segment of the adventure is adding a deeper level of water to Area F with the Giant Constrictor Snake. I thought this could add something extra to this fight. I am picturing similar to Luke Skywalker in the trash compartment, getting yanked and dragged into the water, while his friends attempt to find the creature to strike it.

Did you play around at all with the snake(s) pulling PCs into the water? It seems to help emphasize the sunken nature of the castle, and make the snake encounter more challenging and unique.

I used it yesterday and the party seemed to really enjoy it. I expanded the room the encounter took place in, so that more party members could reasonably fit in. Luckily the party explored the room with the hidden treasure under the stone first, so they all ran into this room, expecting more treasure, splitting up searching. Very funny when the rogue was yanked under the water! Even better the party tried attacking the snake, but in the mass of churning confused water two of the party members missed so badly they hit their friend!

It was a fun tweak, and pretty easy to work in, would suggest it to anyone looking to build on the environment of the ruins :).

Really enjoying this adventure, thanks for creating it! I'll post a review after I finish it.

I know it's encounter-focused, but how much non-combat stuff is there? Things like NPCs, flavor/fluff, plot and story, etc. Like, I absolutely loved the flavor provided by Bale's, which has become my player's favorite store.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
