{WH} Traders & Merchants! Inventories for 30 different types of merchants!

For those unafraid of death, adventure is a profitable profession, paying gold for feats of blood and heroism.

What, then, do adventurers spend their money on? Where can they part with their hard-earned coin? And, should they track one down, what goods could a given merchant be expected to have?

Initially conceived of as an expansion to the Fortresses, Temples, & Strongholds ruleset, the Traders & Merchants rules option includes rules and inventories for 30 different types of merchant across five different merchant qualities, and includes rules for randomly generating and adding distinct personalities to each.

The profoundly fortunate (or unfortunate) adventurer may even encounter elusive Legendary merchants! Bargain with the fey, make deals with the devil himself, or exchange coin for items displaced across space and time!

Whatever your fancy, these merchants have it in stock. Take a look, and browse, barter, and buy to your heart’s content.

It seems that anyone who had the old version whether or not they paid for it can update to this new version

Yep! That's roughly my intention.

Now, I'm not arguing if anyone wants to go back and re-purchase it, if they got it for free, but that's entirely up to them. ;)

Hello, I think I got this before it cost 12.99 so I have the older version and I was wandering if there was anything added or updated. I was thinking about buying it (I love your work), but I do not want to pay for something I already have.

The page count, and the length of merchant inventories, has more than doubled between the old version and the new version!

There is new art throughout, there are new and expanded rules for merchants and their inventories, and the text is selectable.

All in all, this version is what I wish I released initially. It's the completed package, to the original's beta product.

It also includes content from more D&D books, up to and including (as of this writing) Mythic Odysseys of Theros. And the listings will be updated to include future books, as they are released!

In short, definitely some new stuff. If you paid cash for it (any amount) previously, I think you should be able to download the new version without paying again? I could be wrong on that, but I thought that's how it worked.

This is such a fantastic help with planning - it is now as close to me as my dice are during games and has expanded my homebrew world considerably for such a modest price. Thank you SO much for making this, it's a dream!

Any update on on your printer-friendly version? I have the original and was thinking about getting your updated version, but I'd really like to be able to print it.

Presently, it's about 80% completed! Other items on the release slate have been taking priority, but it's the first thing I'll be getting back to once my current project is finished.

I wish this was printer friendly. I like to have physical copies for when I have downtime at my job to scribble out a list.

Walrock Homebrew is consistently my favorite DND content creator. We've had a casual, ongoing game for a few years now, and I just love how much this kind of thing adds to our experience- and its laid out in an accessible, attractive way. Sometimes when I need to feel inspired I just go back and read through some of their materials. Love this, as always.

Gorgeous document, beautiful artwork and layout! Minor error I noticed when skimming the categories of merchants is "Theiving" Supplies pg21 should be "Thieving."

For the Warlock pact of the Needful Things legendary merchant, does it grant all of the features of the first level of Warlock? And does it function as a way to pay for a level, eg if there was a 14th level Bard who bought this, do they become a Bard 14/Warlock 1 multiclass, and a 15th level character, or does this function as something extra that gets added on top of normal progression? With them remaining as a level 14 Bard and level 14 character, just with some warlock stuff as extra.

The general idea is that it functions as a multiclass. You're not necessarily paying for a free level, moreover paying for the ability to multiclass as a warlock in the first place.

The intention is that it functions as a fun, story-driven way for a character to naturally multiclass by entering a pact with this rare, distinctive NPC they found.

Great document!
I would like to import it into my Fantasy Grounds games as tables for merchants that my players meet. Unfortunately the PDF text is not selectable in the document (in my copy at least) so I have to type them all out by hand. Is this something about the version of PDF it was made with perhaps?
Thanks

I so far am Loving this product! It was so hard for me to keep track of what shops could be selling and at what price, especially since I am crunched for my prep-time. This has helped me in creating cool merchant characters and setting up future interactions my party hasn't discovered yet! I plan on using this for the duration of my Campaign

If I could make a request, could you colab with the users on Reddit that Created the Steampunk Compendium? Lots of new and interesting items there I'd love to put into shops as well

Hi, any chance to have a printer-friendly version? Your work is great, and I'd be happy to support you, however I prefer to have my reference printed while playing and this one is very heavy with images

Slowly but surely, I'm making a run of converting all my products to have a printsafe, selectable version.

As you can imagine, for this particular project, that's going to take a long time! Those 32 pages of charts and text are nothing to sneeze at.

Still, it'll be done, just eventually, and unfortunately not within the next couple of months.

I'd like to do one eventually, but tables take a very long time to format printer-friendly.

This particular product is tables on tables on tables. It'll happen at some point, but probably not for some time.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
