An Epic Adventure

They're some of the greatest heroes the world has ever seen, but when they are plucked from their own time and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time, will they be up to the challenge?

Taking D&D to the Limit

Epic-level D&D is something that every gamer should get to play around with at least once. However, this is something that most groups struggle to achieve.

Most committed players have some sort of idealized character hanging round in the back of their head, designed to take advantage of all the abilities on offer when you get 20 levels under your belt, but they rarely get to use them.

Which is where To the End of Time comes in.

What is This Adventure?

This one-shot is designed to give players a taste of epic level adventuring without the need for two years of campaigning first. It can be completed in a single long session, or two or three shorter ones and should be relatively straightforward to run.

The players get to pick from pre-generated epic-level heroes (downloadable free from winghornpress.com) or create their own, complete with backstories of valor and adventure.

At the very moment of their death, these titanic heroes are plucked from their own time by a powerful angel and tasked with saving the world - and possibly much more besides - one last time.

Over the course of their adventure the party will encounter all manner of powerful creatures far beyond the reach of regular adventurers, and face tasks that would leave even stout-hearted heroes dumbstruck.

So sit down and grab some dice… it’s going to be a long night.

Ran this over the weekend with 3 players who were crazy-geared. Every fight was a joke (not a bad thing) until the final boss. And it was 8 points away from being a joke as well. (The fighter took all 8 attacks and had 3-4 crits, Tempani was left with 8 HP after the fighter's turn.)

Here's where it went to hell for my party. I brought out the divine horror and almost immediately used it's Dread Gaze to confuse the fighter. Eventually, I confused the monk. Lastly, confused the bard.

All three were confused. And I only used Mind Rend each round, which they almost always failed the save, so exhaustion levels kept piling up.

Here's my question: Did I run this correctly? I mean, is it possible to have my ENTIRE party confused at the same time. Since I wasn't "casting" Confusion, I never gave the monster "Concentrating", which means I can Confuse someone else. Or, was it intended that using Dread Gaze would immediately put me in the concentrating...See more

I ran this this weekend as well for a group of five players. I added battles along the way to try and drain resources but they got to tempani without any issue. Then because of the the super high charisma saves and exhaustion stacks I quickly had them on the ropes. I had an archdruid that shape changed to an elemental that is immune to exhaustion and acted as a meat shield (bonus action shape change to top off hp every turn) and a wizard that kept the dps PCs going. I even created a third round for tempani to really create problems for them. I did the same thing you did and everyone had an awesome time. They did beat tempani and added flair for a home brew campaign in the future.

I'm not clear on how one of the divine horror's random rolls works. How does the magnetism work? Would every character within 30 feet of the target make a strength save and then on fail, I roll the attacks on the target?

Yes that’s exactly what I did with the magnetism. It says the characters act as singly objects. If you want to add weapon racks or keep track of the chains as objects that can fly around you can do that to make PCs spread out

Also for the liquefying ground I allowed my ranger to use his ethereal step to escape.

I’m preparing to run this for a group in a few weeks and I noticed two things are off. One - it mentions that it comes with premise characters, but this wasn’t included in my download and two - at the end when you fight Tempani it mentions she will try to use the Elder Being’s “Corrupting Aura” and “Eye of the Void” abilities but neither are in the stat block. In fact, the elder being and divine horror stat blocks are almost identical. Is this correct?

i played this adventure today.
3 players and it was very fun.
i just modified the intro to make it fit in a personal version of a setting i have
(basically is the god of time who recruits the party to stop the fallen Solar in exchange for life and varius blessings<<Sorry i changed his name in Siliel to make it more angelical XD>>)
the final battle it was very fun and balanced.

Players will struggle without magical gear. Level 20 characters are strong, but magical gear really makes them good. I would suggest probably a VR, R, and U for each player. Maybe even a Legendary, VR, and R instead if your feeling generous.

Just wondering what edition manuals would be best for this? I have a 2nd ed DM Handbook and that's it! Any advice would be great, ta.

5th edition MM is kinda a must. You will need the stats for several of the monsters that are not unique to the module. In general a 5th edition PHB and DMG would also help.

Ran this "1 shot" the past two weekends for my group. I will say for my group it took between 10-12 hrs between the two sessions in the case of my group. I think that was fine and we actually needed to fill two weeks while people were traveling. Some thoughts having run it through entirely.

***SPOILERS FOR THE CAMPAIGN BELOW***
The initial dragon encounter at the start was beyond a stomp. I had 5 members when we started, and as you posed this as an epic level campaign, they all were level 20. 3 Young brass dragons literally stood no chance. I ended up using 3 adult brass dragons and with a bit of difficulty my group passed. I made the change on the fly because the first character up without any crits, did something like 80% of the young dragons health as a fighter. Yes I realize thats 4 attacks, etc. But even at epic level for a one shot, i dont want a melee class, without critting, to one shot a dragon. Another recommendation would be 1 adult and 2 young brass dragons.

This is almost two years too late, but I'm preparing to run this and noticed that
1) The non-printer-friendly version has a map!
2) Regarding the comment "I would have loved to have some high res copies of two included maps without numbers that I could upload and use on roll 20. Instead I had to poorly photoshop over the numbers and let the players use it as a map with separate maps for any battle encounters." If you copy the map from the regular version onto your clipboard and paste in something like Microsoft Paint, there are no numbers to contend with. I don't use roll20 so I can't speak to that.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
