A reincarnated avenger, having lived a hundred lives, returns again to battle the wicked assassins of Set among the Plains of Purple Dust. A lone wolf scout in the Forest of Tethir tracks down his marauding prey among the dark boughs. In the Underdark, an ooze takes on humanoid form to converse with a marble-skinned human woman, who is not quite... human. A cleric of Sune frolics, while a warlock of Cyric plots. A High Old One of Dumathoin's body starts to calcify as he begins his transformation into a deathless thorsamsonn. All while the Jordain bodyguard disrupts the magical bolt of force launched at his elder Halruaan lord. A dwarven berserker, a lewd song on her lips, flips over the tail of a hydra while smashing her greatsword into the monstrosity's flank. All of these characters have a home in the Forgotten Realms of Faerun. This ancient world has come out of a century of upheaval, but is still in dire need of heroes like you.

Well met fellow boldblades. This supplement offers 101 pages of new character options for the 5th edtion of Dungeons & Dragons, grounded in earlier editions of the Forgotten Realms, but useable in almost any setting, including 21 new races and subraces, 41 new subclass options, 3 new classes and prestige classes, 5 backgrounds, 7 feats, 18 new spells, and more.

Thomas M. Costa was a regular contributor to and game designer for the Forgotten Realms from 1998 through 2008. Really enjoyed the content. It's of great use to anyone that wants to keep some of the elements of 3.5 and 4th edition Realms alive in the current setting, and I like a lot of your work to bridge gaps. I also like that you obviously referenced Volo's Guide to make sure that newer elements such as races were still in line with previous offerings.

Not sure I'm thrilled with suggesting Avarials be one level lower than the rest of the party, but I understand why you might think that needs to be said. I'm just happy to have moved outside of level adjustments to want to reintroduce something similar, even if it is much simpler.

Really like the sub-race groupings. I like the deity specific modifications to some of the domains. I am not a huge fan of the new classes, not because they don't appear to be mechanically sound, but because I like the "archetype" mechanics well enough that I'm not looking to see more classes added to the game. I understand your reasoning, especially with the...See more

First off, thank you so much for the review and rating. It's great getting feedback and I really appreciate it and you giving the product a shot.

I tried to be cognizant of what was out there and not just reproduce anything already done, which did require some adjustments since I started before Volo's Guide came out. ;-)

Regarding some of the pseudo level-adjusted races. It's pretty much due to flight. I was really surprised they put out the aarackocra with no restrictions. Flight can be a fight killer. Alternately, you put the team in confined quarters and the flying character's player is miffed they can't fly. A good DM can work with it, without unbalancing the game, but it likely means modifying premade adventures and more effort on the DM's part. Which is all just a long winded way of saying, I think there is an impact, but the DM can decide how much of an impact it will have on their game.

Sorry the new classes don't work for you. The duelist was, obviously, just putting...See more

So I'm a big fan of this document. I'm still working through some of it, you've given us a lot to ponder. As a DM who typically runs homebrew, this has been some great inspiration for races and NPCs to flesh out my world with, and I intend to offer up a few of these options to players who might enjoy them.

I especially like the Spellfire rules thus far, it's something I'm really interested in giving to a player to see what they do with it. I'm especially interested in the PrC you've created, which is an area of design I'd love to see explored more in 5e.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it and glad you're going to give a few things a try. I'd love feedback on how things work out in your games -- positive or constructive.

I went back and forth on spellfire as a full class or a feat or PrC, but it didn't seem like enough to flesh out a whole class. It also needed to be somewhat (or grossly) tamed down from 2nd and 3rd edition when compared to other spellcasters. I hope I found that balance.

Thanks to all who have given this product a chance. I really appreciate it. If you have any comments or constructive feedback on how I might improve it (errors, things that you don't think quite work, whatever), please let me know so I consider tweaks in the next iteration. Axes High, Tom

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
