While you are relaxing at your regular tavern, you are contacted by a servant of a mysterious employer. You are asked to complete a couple of “simple” tasks, and will be given ample rewards for your endeavors. However, you cannot help but wonder, “If they are so simple, why can’t the employer do them himself?” and “Should we help him?”

This is my first attempt at writing an adventure. This is the 1st adventure of the Lost Love saga. I intend to write a series of related adventures for 3-5 PC adventurers, each time introducing different game mechanics, so that they will become familiar with Dungeons & Dragons.

I hope that you will enjoy having this adventure as much as I have enjoyed writing it. If this adventure is well-received, I will proceed to write a follow-up adventure. I have made this item Pay What You Want, in the hope that it better meets your needs. In return, I would like to ask that you leave your review, so that I can improve my future attempts, based on your feedback. Thanks in advance.

Special thanks to Mr Nicholas Martignago for his comment that led to version 2. Thanks to Miss Michelle Jackson for her comments. (Yes, I read all your comments.)

PS: Thanks for all your support. The 2nd adventure of the Lost Love saga, The Parched Moss, has been released!

The adventures of the Lost Love saga include:

  1. The Withered Rose (Best Seller: Copper)
  2. The Parched Moss
  3. The Budding Snowdrop
  4. The Blooming Thyme

The adventures of the Lost Innocence saga include:

  1. The Flickering Spark

Version History:

2017-03-08: Version 1 released.

2017-03-09: Version 2 released. I have reduced the total XP awarded in the adventure. As a party, 3 adventurers will get 1091-2537 XP, 4 adventurers will get 1152-2537 XP, and 5 adventurers will get 1274-2537 XP. This is based on the assumption that the Dungeon Master only gives the adventurers 2 random encounters in Part 1 and 4 in Part 2. If gold does not award XP in your campaign, they will then get 340-1610 XP, 400-1610 XP and 520-1610 XP respectively. This is sufficient to get them to 2nd level, without bringing them to 3rd level, unless they have had a previous adventure elsewhere.

2017-03-12: Version 3 released. Minor errors corrected. NPC names changed to Eastern European names (thanks to Mr Kevin A Swartz MD's 3,154,343 Eastern European Names) for alignment to the theme of the adventure. Statblock format changed (thanks to Mr Matt Norton's Excel Statblock Monster Template) for better presentation.

2017-03-19: Version 4 released. Minor errors corrected.

2017-03-31: Version 5 released. I have reduced the total gp awarded for the main missions in the adventure, because I realized that I made a mistake in calculating the value of pp as random treasure, which could have pushed a 3-adventurer party to 3rd level, if gold awards XP in your campaign. As a party, 3 adventurers will get 1051-2677 XP, 4 adventurers will get 1112-2677 XP, and 5 adventurers will get 1234-2677 XP.

2017-04-08: Version 6 released. Minor errors corrected. I have included the value of the lute as a possible loot item, which I did not include in the previous version. As a party, 3 adventurers will get 1068-2694 XP, 4 adventurers will get 1129-2694 XP, and 5 adventurers will get 1251-2694 XP.

2017-04-28: Version 7 released. Minor errors corrected. The biggest changes are in the Appendix.

I played with a group of 3 for seven and a half hours. They went completely off the rails after what was meant to be the final battle. My players wrangled a happy ending out of this. I've never had so much fun. And they loved it. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
