Claiming to possess Hartkiller's Horn, Ryndölg makes his move to take control of the Hartsvale.

The non-giant residents have been pressed to declare their allegiance or be destroyed. Do they swear fealty to Jarl Ryndölg, or is there another option? Is there another contender to the throne? Sometimes the best choices can be the most dangerous.

A Four-Hour Adventure for 5th-10th Level Characters

Also included in the purchase of this adventure is a version specially converted for use with the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop software. The converted adventure features all the text and maps from the original adventure along with cross-linking of monsters, spells, magic items, equipment, and story elements, plus the powerful rules automation for which Fantasy Grounds is known.

Ran for my gaming store's AL night (they purchased the module), was a great time and the players loved wrapping up this tier's storyline. They had a great deliberation about the choices in the middle, and even surprised me!

I loaded the .mod into Fantasy Grounds Unity (FGU). For the most part it worked fine, but there are some strange square characters in the text. This supposedly is because of special characters that have been added to the text that may have worked in Fantasy Grounds Classic, but no longer work in FGU.

It doesn't impact the understanding of the module, just the readability in places.

Just purchased other day and neither .zip or .mod will work on my kindle, is there a .pdf available of this?

New to DMSGUILD, are these stories written by DM's or are they stories lines taken from already written books? If Both, How can I tell which one is which?

Another great adventure by Greg Marks. I am definitely a fan. Too bad it takes reading it to understand how truly awesome it is.
I love the fact there are multiple endings truly dependent on player choices. And it was really great fun.

This was a fantastic module to play in. My group ran this as part of the Storm King's Thunder hardcover (and I had the distinct pleasure to take a break from the campaign and actually play as a character). The Beast of Talos is an awesome, legendary fight. Unlike some folks, the Dagger of Venom actually made a big difference - the monk had it, struck the beast, and somehow, the DM forgot to have the beast use Legendary Resistance, so the Beast had Disadvantage on attack rolls. Even so, we still had a brutal fight - my barbarian took an enormous amount of damage. But it was a fantastic fight, and I'm proud of how our group did. Great battle, great module.

Another great module from season 5. This season is where 5e really hit it's stride in AL. Modules like this had players coming back for more each week. I highly recommend this module to players and DMs alike. 5/5

This module, whew. With the AL trend of party security, this module has definitely reminded everyone that no one is safe. The Beast of Talos is brutal and killed many people. This module has many role-playing opportunities and there are real consequences for the players' actions.

However, I have yet to see a party not go after the Beast. I have yet to run this module, but every DM has always presented the choice given as "There are some things that dig, or a beast blessed by Talos". No one would ever go after "the things that dig", and parties do not realize the magnitude of what they seek. Additionally, a dagger of venom is one of the two worst magic items I have ever seen given away. When the community already has such a magic item count disparity between those who play mods and those who play books, it is such a shame to see no one claim module magic items. Some people have been offended by that choice of magic item.

I can forgive a lack of foreshadowing. However,...See more

This is a very enjoyable mod. I enjoy playing and running this mod. The only thing that I see wrong with this is the CR for the Best of Talos. I think that his CR needs to be a little bit higher since this is is a party killer. It is something that only the brave and strong should think about doing. It is also a really fun mod in that it wraps up in several fun ways which I liked when I read the mod. But again, it you have a character that you really like and you are the strongest and everyone else is not that strong, you might not want to play that character since it is a scary monster to fight.

With this as the final fight I would honestly rather have 2 big bosses then just having to choose one. We fought the beast and won. I would have loved to have also fought in the final battle instead as well. It was a great module to be a part of.

This was a fun as hell adventure. The Beast of Talks was probably the single scariest monster that I have seen in any adventure that I've played in. I love how this also had a effect of the Lord of the Vale and that there are many different ending to this adventure. I would love to see this story continued.

5/5 - I have purchased the product, but the website is acting up. I ran this for a mixed table, Average party. They decided to take the Divine Hunt route, where I promptly knocked out half the party with its breath weapon. I decided to focus less on the breath weapon, more on eating the party. by the end, it came down to a javelin in the eye while 3 people were down and eaten. Was fun, though the final fight is a bit of a let down compared to the divine hunt

5/5 Full disclosure: I did not pay for this, as I know *someone* (undisclosed source) who was running this at a Con and had a copy they gave me so I would have an extra week to prep (I ran it the day after it came out on DMSGuild). It's so good I literally just payed for it anyways, but for some reason it won't let me review it without buying it (which I just did).

So I had this a week before I should have had it, and while preparing it it looked fairly straightforward, with the storyarc being wrapped up, and the big duel and fight and all. Probably looking like a 4/5 or 5/5. Then I saw the stats on the Beast of Talos... Sweet Jesus that is a nasty fight! Even adjusting for a weaker party (they weren't) and not recharging his breath attack I'm shocked I didn't TPK them. It wasn't as bad as Mother in DDEX3-16 (a T3), but it's scary close.

Just wanted to put this here to help others who have the same confusion I did. Perhaps minor spoiler, though.

<SPOILER>
For the Beast of Talos, the Force of Nature ability should read: "If the Beast of Talos DOESN'T act first in Initiative, it acts second." (as stated by author Greg Marks in response to someone else asking how the trait worked. Also, the capitalized emphasis is mine.)

Basically, because the beast is so awesome, it either goes first (if it wins initiative rolls) or second (if it loses initiative to anyone). Took me a bit of searching to find this, so hopefully this helps someone.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
