An update on the demon lord Pazuzu for 5th Edition. A perfect addition to Out of the Abyss or to any high level adventure. Can you defeat this demon lord and claim his powerful throne and blade? (Probably not, LOL)

Included in this document is lore on Pazuzu and his realm, statistics for his greatsword and throne, statistics for Pazuzu's dreaded anzu demons, and statistics for the prince of the lower aerial kingdoms himself, Pazuzu!

This makes use of the previous materials for Pazuzu from previous editions and adds new material. This is one tough demon lord to take down, so be prepared to die.

The lore, layer and regional effects are interesting and the lesser demons are a creative thought. Not sure why you choose to have a D100 table with only 5 entries but I suppose that's a style choice and don't think that's an issue. However, the stats on Pazuzu aren't quite to 5e standards. A creature with his CR should have a +8 proficiency, but his are all over the place (less in 2 saving throws more in another) and the same with his skills...additionally, Bluff isn't a 5e skill - I think you mean deception.
From a DM perspective, 3 breath attacks are too much to track. On the other hand, I like what you did with the 3rd legendary action (making it turn based).

1d10 would have worked just as well. D100 is more stylistic choice. I thin originally I had intended or having a different set of potential values for the various effects triggering, but ended up making things equal.

You are correct! The stats are NOT to 5e CR standard. Typically we would see a lot different set of modifiers and etc. However, I feel that function is more important than form in this case, so I went with the stats that felt right. The CR is just there to indicate where I think this monster would fall in terms of difficulty and to fit the general templating of a 5e monster.

I will fix the Bluff thing. That should have been Deception. I played a LOT of 4e back in the day.

The breath attacks never bothered me personally, but I can see them being a little overwhelming to track. You can only shoot one per turn so I'm not sure all 3 would ever be on CD at once. However, should all 3 be on CD it would be a bit tedious to roll 3.

Thank you for the feedback!...See more

Actually if we go back through Pazuzu's back story through the years he is actually one of the most powerful demon lords. He is a obryith (a primordial demon) who existed before everything. And he doesn't have his own layer, instead he controls the sky over every layer. At one point he also controlled any portal in or out of the abyss. The only difference between him and say Orcus or even Demogorgon is the fact that he doesn't care about ruling anything and prefer to sit back and enjoy watching corruption and destruction.

He's a really interesting demon lord, that's for sure. I started playing in 4e so everything I know about Pazuzu is from researching to write this. Hope you enjoyed it and it is a good 5e take on the demon lord. Thanks for stopping by to comment and hope you enjoy the product!

Not necessarily. I do understand your idea since Demogorgon is the Prince of Demons, however their power is also considered by their forces of demons at their disposal. Pazuzu probably has very few on his layer, or many foes that come and go with the portals.

I understand that his CR should, based on lore, be lower than Demogorgon and Orcus, but based on how hard it would be to fight him on stats alone, I felt it needed a higher CR. In my opinion CR is only so useful though and it's largely just a number I felt needed to be tacked on to give a quick assessment of how dangerous he would be as a foe.

In short, it makes sense for it to be lower and it also doesn't make sense, so I'll probably leave it where it is. Hope you enjoyed the rest of it though!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
